Step 1: You have to separate your dreads.

It will make it easier to comb out your hair.If you want to work with one loc at a time, you need to get rid of any hair ties.If you want to see what you're doing, start with a loc on the side of your head and use a mirror. It might be easier to have a friend comb them out.Don't pull apart the locs.It is possible to make it easier to comb your hair with the use of hair clips.

Step 2: Bring water to the end of your loc.

It is important for the hair to be wet before you comb it out.To saturate the spray bottle, fill it with water and spray the end.Continue spraying the water with your hand until it is completely wet.If you don't brush your dreads first, you will break your hair.Work is done in 3–4 inches.

Step 3: Apply conditioner.

It will be easier to comb out the hair if you use a conditioner.Make sure to saturate the area that you wet with water by rubbing the conditioner into the end of the dreadlock.A basic commercial conditioner can be used to comb out your hair.

Step 4: The end of the dread should be brushed with a small-toothed comb.

To brush the end of the dread, hold the loc and pull the brush outward.Continue brushing the hair out. When you comb, you will see hair coming out of your comb.Don't be alarmed, this is normal.

Step 5: Put water and conditioner on the rest of the dread.

If you break the ends of the hair as you comb them out, you need to keep your hair fully hydrated and conditioned.Continue to work towards the root of your hair as you brush up the lock.

If you have older dreads, you may still be afraid of hair.If this is the case, apply hot water to your hair and comb it out to separate it.Hot water is usually the best way to loosen up the locs.If you decide to use clippers, shaving your head with hot water will make it easier.
