If you want to give your glasses a thorough cleaning or if you need to replace a lens, you may have to remove them yourself.A screwdriver is required in order to remove the lens from the screw. If you have plastic frames, heating them will loosen them so you can pop them out.You can reuse your frames once you remove the old ones.
Step 1: The screws hold the lens.
The style of your frame can affect the location of the screw. If there are 2 screws on the nose bridge, you need to check the inside of your frames. If there are no screws underneath the arm hinges, look on the sides of your frames. If you can't find screws there, you should check the bottom rim of your glasses to see if the screws are hidden there. If there are diagrams or instructions on how to remove the lens, check your frame models online. If you don't find any screws on your frames, you need to remove them.
Step 2: The screw should be turned anti-clockwise using a screwdriver.
The glasses repair kit has a screwdriver that can be used to remove screws.Once you can pull them out completely, turn the screws clockwise. You should keep the screws in a small container. You can find eyeglass repair kits in convenience stores.
Step 3: Push the lens out of the way.
Hold the bridge with your nondominant hand.Under the nose bridge, put your thumb on the lens. The lens should be pushed forward so it slides out from the frame. The other lens can be popped out the same way.
Step 4: Put hot water from your sink in a shallow bowl.
You can use the hottest water from the sink.If you want your frames to heat evenly, fill a bowl that's deep enough to completely submerge them.If you drop your glasses, put a towel under your bowl to protect them.
Step 5: The glasses should be in the bowl.
Either fold up the arms of your glasses or remove the screws that hold them in.The glasses should be put in the water with the face up.To make it easier to bend, leave the frames in the water for a minute.
Step 6: After 1 minute, wash the glasses with a microfiber cloth.
Shake off any excess liquid by taking the glasses out of the water. To remove water droplets from the lens and frames, use a microfiber towel. To get a better grip, cover both sides of the lens with a microfiber cloth.
Step 7: Push gently on the side of the lens that is not in place.
Place your dominant thumb on the side of the lens that is not touching the nose bridge. The corner of the lens should come out when pushed. You have to remove one lens before you remove the other.Try putting the frames in hot water for another minute if they don't come out right away.
Step 8: For 5 minutes, heat the frames around your eyes.
You need to hold the hair dryer from your glasses frames. To warm up the plastic, turn your hair dryer onto a medium heat and speed setting. The frames are more flexible if you move the dryer around near them.It is not advisable to use a high heat setting.
Step 9: Push the lens out with your thumb.
Use your nondominant hand to squeeze the nose bridge on the frames.Press your thumb into the corner or side of the lens that is closest to the nose bridge. You can easily pull it out if the lens pops out of place.Pressing the lens too hard will cause them to break or fall out of your frames.
Step 10: If you can't remove the lens, warm the frames more.
Try heating the frames for another 3 minutes at a time by heating your hair dryer to a medium setting, if you weren't able to apply pressure and remove thelens.Push the glasses out after you heat them.
