Many of the bones in your foot are prone to injury. If you kick something or jump from a certain height and land on your feet, you can break bones in your foot.Children's feet are more flexible than adults' and they bounce back more quickly from a broken foot.
Step 1: It's too painful to walk on your foot.
If you try to put any pressure on your foot or walk on it, it will cause a lot of pain.If you have a broken toe, you can walk and not be in pain.A broken foot will be very hard to walk on.The best way to diagnose a broken bone is to remove the boots after a suspected break.
Step 2: Take off your shoes and socks.
You can compare your feet side by side to determine if your foot is broken. If you can't get your shoes and socks off, you should go to the nearest emergency room or call the police.Immediate medical care is needed for your broken foot.Cut the boot and socks to stop the swelling. If you break your foot, there's usually some type of trauma that goes along with it.You could have torn it or severed it.A stress fracture is caused by repetitive actions like playing sports or walking.
Step 3: Look for signs of injury and bruise in your feet.
If the toes on your injured foot are swollen, you should see a doctor. If you injured your foot, you can compare it to your healthy foot to see if it is red or swollen. There may be wounds on your foot.Blood vessels can be broken if you have a break.Swelling is normal for most injuries. If you have a broken bone, the swelling might be so bad that it leads to blisters on your skin, because the fluid doesn't have anywhere to go.
Step 4: Check to see if the foot is broken.
If the foot is injured, you can try to determine if it is broken. The tissue that connects two bones is called a ligament and can be torn or stretched.A break is a break of the bone.If you see bones in the skin, it's a broken bone. This can lead to an injury if you don't seek emergency medical care.
Step 5: Go to the emergency room.
You should go to the nearest emergency room if your foot appears to be broken. No one can help you if you are alone. If you have a broken foot, do not drive yourself to the emergency room.If you have a broken bone, it's too dangerous to drive yourself. If someone is able to drive you to the emergency room, you should try to keep your foot immobile while you are in the car and not move.Put a pillow under your foot.If you tie it to your foot, it will help it stay upright. If you can, try to keep your foot elevated by sitting in the back seat.
Step 6: The doctor can look at your foot.
The doctor will examine your foot to see if it's broken. She may feel some pain as she does this, which is an indication that the foot is broken. When the doctor presses the base of your baby's toe and the mid-foot on your broken foot, you may feel pain. You might not be able to take four or less steps without assistance.
Step 7: Allow the doctor to examine your foot.
The doctor will do an X-ray on your foot if she suspects you have broken bones.Even with an X-ray, it can be difficult to determine if your foot is broken as swelling can obscure the fine bones in the foot. The doctor can use an X-ray to identify the broken bones in your foot and how they can be treated.
Step 8: Discuss your treatment options with the doctor.
If you broke a bone in your foot, the treatment options will depend on it.You may need surgery if you broke your heel.If you have broken your talus, which is the bone that connects your foot to your leg, you may need surgery. If you fractured your toe, you won't need surgery.
Step 9: As much as possible, stay off your foot.
If you break your foot, you should stay off it as much as you can.Use crutches to get around and make sure you put your full weight on your arms, hands, shoulders, and the crutches, not your foot.If you have a broken toe, you may be able to keep it from moving with tape around it.Give your broken toe six to eight weeks to heal and don't put any weight on it.
Step 10: Ice is applied to reduce swelling.
If you want your foot to be higher than the rest of your body, put it on a cushion in a bed or high chair. The swelling will be kept down by this.If you have a cast on your foot, icing it can reduce swelling. For the first 10 to 12 hours of the injury, apply the ice for 10 minutes at a time.
Step 11: As prescribed by your doctor, take pain relief.
Over-the-counter pain relief can be used to help manage the pain. You should only take them if they are prescribed by your doctor.
Step 12: You should schedule a follow up exam with your doctor.
It can take six to eight weeks for a foot injury to heal.Once you are able to put weight on your foot, you should schedule a follow-up exam with your doctor.Your doctor may recommend that you use a flat-bottomed shoe to help heal your foot.
