Pearl paints add depth to the base color, and bend the light to throw off a soft glow or shift the colors under certain angles.Pearl paints are used for added luster to auto finishes.Pearls are not paint themselves nor actual pearls; they are semi-transparent, iridescent powders added to paint. The pearls have little or no color in them and intensify the color they are used with.It is possible to highlight or complement the colors of the candy pearls with a soft pearlescent glow.Once you understand how to pearl paint, you will be able to bring out the best in your car.
Step 1: Get out of the auto.
Chunks, dents, holes, and rust that can eat through the new paint job are some of the things to look for.
Step 2: If you've done any body repair, you should sand the body down for a smooth finish.
Step 3: Remove all dust, dirt and grease by washing and rinsing.
Step 4: The areas you don't want to paint on are the auto areas.
If you don't want paint on the car, use masking tape and paper. To avoid overspray getting into the interior, engine bay, or trunk, include door jambs and trunk and hood lids.
Step 5: You intend to paint in that area.
Step 6: Once the painting is done, apply masking paper to the walls and ceiling and lay plastic on the floor to make it easier to clean up.
Step 7: Make sure the paint gun is clean.
To avoid cross-contamination of colors and types of paint, arm yourself with separate guns for the different stages.
Step 8: To avoid shadow, illuminate overhead and shine on the sides.
Full-spectrum lighting can be used to make sure the light shows accurate color.
Step 9: Depending on the final color, lay down a coat of white, gray or black primer.
To ensure coverage, overlap each pass by 50%.
Step 10: Once it is dry, sand the surface with 600-grit paper.
There may be body repairs that surface.
Step 11: Continue with another coat until you have an even base over the whole body.
Step 12: You can spray on your base coat.
Step 13: Allow to dry, then sand and wash off.
Step 14: If you want a certain hue, review the color.
Step 15: Ensure you have evenly covered the primer by spraying at least one more coat.
Step 16: Either use ghost pearls or candy pearls.
Step 17: Add the pearl powder to the candy paint.
You will need at least four coats to apply candy colors that are translucent. The color changes as you layer it.The color coat underneath will show through, with this candy color tint, and the pearl giving off an extra deep glow.Overlap each pass by 75%.A clear coat between the base color and the candy color is added by some professionals.
Step 18: After each layer dries, sand with 1000-grit sandpaper.
Step 19: When you achieve the desired hue and saturation, lay additional coats one at a time.
Step 20: The base color coat should be mixed with the pearl powder.
Step 21: The final color can be sprayed on.
Step 22: One or two coats of clear coat is enough to cover and protect the color.
