Cats have beautiful eyes. Many women will try to duplicate their feline tilt with make up.Cat eyes are a great example of engineering.Their eyelids are designed to glide over the eye's surface, with the dual purpose of spreading tear film to keep it moist and to also sweep away any dust that might irritate it.Some cats may have problems with their eyes.
Step 1: You can take your cat to a spot by a window or a well lit room.
Make sure your cat is facing into the light.
Step 2: An assistant should sit on a chair with your cat.
If you want to keep your cat still, ask the assistant to gently restrain her by holding her in a way that seems comfortable for her.Your assistant can cup her against your chest or place both hands on the cat.Your assistant should place your cat in a relaxed position.
Step 3: With your eyes level with the cat's eyes, stand or kneel.
If you are right handed, use your left hand to steady her head and turn it towards you.If you want to do this, place your cat's chin on your thumb and forefinger over her forehead.
Step 4: Check to see if your cat's eyes are the same size.
She is more likely to be squinting if one eye is smaller than the other. The smaller eye is examined later as it may be the problem eye, because cats do this in response to eye irritation.
Step 5: If her eyes are red, you should notice it.
Eyelid abnormality is caused by rubbing and redness on the surface of your cat's eye, so examining the cornea can help tell you if there is a problem.Irritation will cause the eye to become red.Take one eye and compare it to another. The whites of both eyes should not be affected. The white of your cat's eyes is covered with angry blood vessels. This is likely to be your cat's problem eye if one eye is redder than the other. If both eyes are red, it is possible that your cat has an eye problem that is affecting both of her eyes.
Step 6: She might have a discharge from her eyes.
There are three types of discharges: mucopurulent, purulent and clear.A blocked tear duct is a common eye problem in cats.Your cat's tears may spill over her cheek and cause a rust colored stain.
Step 7: Use a pen light to look at your cat's eyes.
It can illuminate stray hairs and throw strong shadows on the eye and cat's eyelid. You need good eyesight to look at your cat's eyes, as you'll be looking at any stray hairs. Before you start the examination with the pen light, make sure you put on your glasses.
Step 8: Check to see if your cat's eyes are open.
In cats, entropion is a problem.Their eyelid should glide across the cornea without touching it.If you don't know what a normal eyelid looks like, look in the mirror.Your eyelashes point away from your eye, and your eyelid has a narrow rim of hairless skin.As you blink, your eyelid will travel in a straight line.
Step 9: A cat blinks.
Does their eyelid glide over the surface or roll inward?
Step 10: If their eyelashes point away from the eye, you should notice.
Take your time and look at each eyelash to make sure they don't roll towards the eye.Give your cat's eye a wipe if only one hair is rolling inwards. There is a chance that your cat has one stray hair.A row of lashes turning inward is one of the most common problems on cats.
Step 11: The edge of their eyes should be smooth.
Just like your eyes, your cat's eyelid should be smooth.Cats have cysts on the leading edge of their eyelid. The cysts look like beads on the cat's eyelid.
Step 12: The leading edge of your cat's eye is 1 cm away.
Then, drag the skin away from her eye.You can use this to check for entropion in your cat's eye.The turning in of the eyelid is called entropion. It can affect both of your cat's eyes. The excess skin on your cat's eyelid causes it to turn into a scroll shape.Poor tear duct drainage and eyelid cysts are the two most common conditions to look for.You can check the upper and lower eyelid at the same time.It will help to move your cat's eyelid. The pink lining of the eyelid can be seen in a normal eyelid. It will be more difficult to expose the inner pink lining of your cat's eye if you take up slack skin instead of dragging on the eyelid.
Step 13: Look for wet hairs when applying traction to your cat's eyelid.
If the hairs on your cat's eye are rubbing against you, you might have entropion.
Step 14: There are rust-colored streaks on your cat's cheeks.
The tear ducts are located in the inner corner of your cat's eyelid. If your cat's tear ducts can't drain properly, she will have stains on her cheeks.
Step 15: If your cat has entropion, take them to the vet.
There is an uncomfortable condition for your cat. It's the same as having permanent damage to your eye. Many cats don't show any symptoms of entropion because they have gotten used to it and are not aware that it can be fixed.
Step 16: Draw a mental line of eyeliner on your cat's eyelid.
If there are bumps in the way, your cat may have eyelid cysts.Eyelid cysts look like small pink or brown beads on your cat's eyelid.
Step 17: If your cat needs surgery, ask your vet.
If you have eyelid cysts in your cat's eye, you should have them removed because they cause irritation and are not life threatening.
Step 18: If your cat has wet cheeks, notice.
Cats with narrow tear ducts can't properly drain tear fluid away.Their tears will spill over onto their cheeks and make them wet.
Step 19: The vet can check your cat's tear ducts.
A few drops of a special dye called fluorescein will be put into your cat's eye to reach a clear diagnosis. The dye is non-irritating.The green stain will be caused by the tear ducts draining to the tip of the nose and upper lip.The dye will spill over your cat's face if the tear ducts are blocked. If you want to treat blocked tear ducts, you can place a fine catheter into them and wash them through with sterile saline.During this procedure, your cat will need to be anesthetized.
