Human hair wigs are expensive, but they are worth it.They are more resistant than wigs made from synthetic fibers when it comes to styling, curling, and dyeing.Human hair wigs need to be washed frequently. You need to be extra careful with them because of how delicate they are.
Step 1: From the ends, brush or comb the wig.
First, remove the ends of the wig.Once they are free of knots, work your way up towards the roots until you can run your brush or comb through it.Use a wire wig brush for straight or wavy wigs, and a wide-toothed comb or your fingers for curly wigs.
Step 2: Put your sink in the cold water and stir in 1 to 2 squeezes of shampoo.
The hair type you are washing is important. If you are washing a wig, make sure to use a curly hair cleanser.Try a color-safe hair product if you know that the wig has been dyed. The wig fibers won't be applied directly. The soapy water will wash the wig.Don't use 2-in-1 hair products that contain conditioner. You don't want to put conditioner too close to the roots of your wig.
Step 3: Put the wig into the water.
Use your fingers to turn the wig cap inside out.Place the wig in the water and submerge it.The hair should be distributed with a gentle swirl. The wig cap is where most of the dirt, sweat, and oils collect, so turning the wig inside will make it easier to reach it.
Step 4: The wig needs to be soaked for 5 minutes.
The wig needs to be completely submerged in the water.Don't move the wig during this time. The fibers will get tangled if there is too much squeezing and swirling.
Step 5: The wig needs to be washed with cold water.
You can either rinse the wig in a bucket filled with fresh, cold water or in the sink or shower.Depending on how thick the wig is, you may have to rinse it twice.
Step 6: Leave conditioner on the wig.
Simply massage the conditioner onto the hair.If you have a lace front wig, make sure to avoid the wig cap.The strands are tied together. The strands will fall out if you apply conditioner to them. The wig's fibers are sewn on instead of wefted, so this shouldn't be a problem. It's a good idea to use a high-quality conditioner. If you prefer, you can use a leave-in conditioner.
Step 7: Wait 2 minutes before you rinse the conditioner.
Just like the hair that grows out of your head, leaving the conditioner on the wig will allow the oils to penetrate it.Once the 2 minutes are up, rinse the wig with cold water. If you are using a leave-in conditioner, skip this step.
Step 8: The wig should be turned right-side out to squeeze the water out.
Take the wig out of the sink and squeeze it with your fist. This can cause the fibers to tangle or break, so don't wring or twist them.Don't brush the wig while it is wet.It can damage the fibers and cause hair loss.
Step 9: Roll the wig up in a towel.
The wig should be placed on the end of the towel. From the end that has the wig on, roll the towel into a bundle.Press down on the towel and gently remove the wig.If the wig is long, make sure the strands are not bunched up.
Step 10: You should apply your products to the wig.
It's a good idea to spray the wig with a conditioning spray to make it easier to untangle it later on.If the wig is curly, apply some styling to it.
Step 11: Allow the wig to be dry on a wig stand.
The wig's fibers can be damaged by brushing it while it is wet.If you have a curly wig, use your fingers to "scrunch" it.Curl your fingers inward as you crunch your hand under the ends of the hair.Curls take form when this causes them to bunch up.If you are using a Styrofoam wig head, make sure it is mounted onto a wig stand. The wig should be secured with pins.
Step 12: If you are in a hurry, blow dry the wig on your head.
To dry the wig cap, use a hair dryer.Attach the wig to your head with bobby pins once the cap is dry. While it is on your head, blow dry the wig. It's important to use a low-heat setting so that the fibers don't get damaged.Make sure you cover your real hair with a wig cap before you wear it.
Step 13: If you want more volume, let the wig dry upside down.
Turn the wig upside down and clip the cape to the pants. The pins on the pants hanger have to be moved closer together in order to achieve this.Don't use the shower at this point if you want the wig to air dry.If the shower is not available, hang the wig in a place that won't get damaged by the water that drips off of the fibers.
Step 14: Once the wig is completely dry, brush it.
If the wig is straight or wavy, use a wire wig brush and a wide-toothed comb.Start from the ends.If you have to, apply a detangling product.
Step 15: If necessary, re-curl the wig.
Some wigs are made from hair that is naturally curly.Straight hair wigs can be made with a curling iron. When washed, the latter type of wig will lose its curl. You can re-curl it the same way you would on your own hair.Hair rollers do not need heat.Use a lower heat setting if you must use a curling iron.
Step 16: You can keep the wig on a stand if you don't want to wear it.
A tissue sprayed with perfume can be tucked into a vase.
Step 17: When the wig gets dirty, re-wash it.
You should wash your wig every 2 to 4 weeks if you wear it daily. You should wash it once a month if you wear it a lot.
Step 18: If you wear a wig daily, take care of your own hair.
You should not neglect your own hair if you cover it up with a wig.Your wig will stay cleaner if you keep your hair and scalp clean. If you have dry hair, keep it hydrated. It won't affect your wig, but it will keep your hair healthy.
