Whether you cosplay on the weekends or wear a wig, you are bound to encounter some tangles.Don't throw that wig in the trash. You can bring your wig back to life with a few inexpensive products and a lot of patience. If you take some time to prepare, comb out and dry your wig, you can have it look new.
Step 1: The materials should be gathered.
The materials are easy to find and inexpensive, which is the best part of this method. All you need is a comb, spray bottle, and conditioner. It is not important to use a wig head.A wig head, a spray bottle filled with water, and a way to mount it are required.
Step 2: Put your wig on.
Place your wig on top of your head.It is possible to mount the wig head onto a camera tri-pod to make it easier to work on it.This is helpful if you are combing a long wig.Lay your wig on a table or counter if you don't have a wig head.
Step 3: Your conditioner needs to be prepared.
The spray bottle should be filled with water. The rest of the way, add conditioner to fill the bottle. You want 3 parts water to 1 part conditioner.Take the mixture and shake it.You can use either a leave-in conditioner or a product designed for untangling wigs. The products don't need to be in water. It is possible to use fabric softener on synthetic wigs.Just like with conditioner, use a single part fabric softener.
Step 4: Put your wig in a container.
If your wig is mangled, you might want to give it a warm water soak.Warm water is needed to fill a sink.Leave your wig in the water for 10 minutes if you use it.Take the excess water out of your wig and put it back in.If the wig is dirty, you can wash it with a squirt of water. Before you begin combing, be sure to rinse the wig with clean water.
Step 5: Take care of the tips of your wig.
Take out your spray bottle, and squirt conditioner-water onto the bottom tips of your wig, until the wig is completely saturated.Give the bottle a shake if the conditioner begins to separate.
Step 6: The tips should be combed out.
The bottom of the wig should be combed out using your wig comb.As you comb with the other hand, hold the hair firmly with one hand.If the hair is not tangle-free, you need to cut it in small sections.
Step 7: Make your way up the wig by spraying and combing.
When the bottom of the wig has been combed through, saturate the next 3-6 inches with conditioner-water and then resume combing.Continue until the entire wig is combed through. This process can take up to an hour, depending on the length of your wig.If you yank on the wig, it will make tangles worse.Carefully remove each tangle.
Step 8: Remove the bangs and style the wig.
If you have bangs, you should use a fine tooth comb to untangle them and position them the way you want them.Carefully place the hair into the overall style you want.
Step 9: The wig should be given a final spray of water.
If you have used a lot of conditioner, you might want to give the wig a rinse with clean water. This helps to reduce the greasiness of the conditioner.
Step 10: comb your wig every 30 minutes.
Leave your wig on and give it time to dry.Give the wig a gentle comb-through every 30 minutes.Your wig should be dry in a few hours. It is possible to use a blow dryer on low heat.It is easy to damage a wig this way.Allow your wig to air dry.
