You can upgrade your PS3's internal hard drive for less than a hundred dollars with a few simple steps.You can turn your PS3 into a 120, 250, or 500GB machine in a matter of minutes.
Step 1: Purchase a mobile hard drive of your choice.
Step 2: It's a good idea to back up any data on the PS3.
Attach the external hard drive to one of the PS3's ports.The Backup Utility can be found in the Xross Media Bar.To back up all game saves, downloads, media and game installs, follow the on screen directions and select "back up" from the menu.When the backup is complete, remove the drive.
Step 3: Plug the power cable into the PS3 and turn it off.
Step 4: Remove the plastic cover from the left side of the unit by using a small flathead screwdriver.
Step 5: The screw should be removed with aPhillips head screwdriver.
The screws that are visible are a bit larger than mine.
Step 6: The retractable thin metal handle can be used to slide the drive to the right.
Step 7: Pull the factory installed drive from the sides of the drive harness.
Step 8: Attach the hard drive to the harness with the small screws.
Put it into the PS3 and slide it to the left with the little handle.You can replace the plastic cover with the first screw you remove.
Step 9: The power cable needs to be inserted and turned on.
You will be asked to format the drive.Click yes if it asks you if you are sure.Wait while the process is happening.It may take some time.At this point, the console may refuse to run due to the appropriate firmware not being present, you can download the firmware from the official Sony website, save it to a file called Update, and then plug the stick into it.
Step 10: Saves, media, downloads, and other data can be restored.
Attach the drive to the PS3 port.The Backup Utility can be found in the Xross Media bar.You can restore from the menu.All backups should be restored from the external drive to the new one.
