If you've never seen a water pipe before, it may seem confusing.Water bongs are very easy to enjoy. The experience of smoking with a water bong is smooth and enjoyable.Water filters are one of the healthiest ways to smoke tobacco and are easy to keep clean.
Step 1: You should know the parts of a bong.
Water bongs are easy to use.Knowing how they work together will help you get the most out of your bong. The end of the tube is where you place your mouth.Place your lips inside the hole, not over it.If you force them into the hole, the outside of your lips will create an airtight seal. The smoke is ready to be breathed in.Smoking a bong involves filling the chamber with smoke, then clearing it with a quick inhale. This is where you store your smoking material. It's sometimes called a slide because you remove it from the downstem before inhaling smoke in the smoke chamber. There is a tube that connects the water in the bong to the slide. It can be either a tube or anotched at the bottom. The smoke makes its way into the water. Some bongs have a molded glass tube leading from the slide into the chamber. The water should always be higher. While the slide is being lit and the user is ready to smoke, a hole on the side of the bond above the water level is kept covered.Unless they are wooden or porcelain, most water bongs don't have a carb.
Step 2: The bong needs to be filled with water to cover the downstem.
The holes in the downstem should be covered by filling the chamber with water. If you have one, it should be low so it doesn't spill out.Try to get the water above the end of the downstem. Some people like cold, some like warm, and many are fine with room temperature.More water does not lead to a better experience. You are working harder to pull the smoke through if you have more water. The amount of water should bubble up but not come to your lips if you take a quick deep breath.
Step 3: Percolators should be filled with water.
Percolators, or percs, are small additions in the neck and chamber of the bong that further filter smoke.Depending on the glassblower, they can be branched like trees, circular discs, rounded domes, or a variety of other shapes. They provide more air and water to diffuse and cool the smoke. The percolator should be filled with enough water to cover any air holes. You might have to fill the percolator through the mouth.
Step 4: You can add ice to your bong.
Some people think ice makes it easier to breathe.Remove the downstem first so that the ice doesn't break on the way down, then put some in the water to cool it down.Ice pinches are where the glass of the chamber is pinched to allow ice to rest. The smoke is forced to travel around the cold air in the neck, cooling it before it enters your mouth. Some smokers prefer hot water in the chamber because it brings steam into their lungs. It's a matter of personal preference.
Step 5: Take a test drag in the downstem and bowl.
Once with the bowl in and once with it removed, exhale as if you were smoking a bowl.Does the water hit your lips? You should pour some out if that is the case.Is it possible that all the percs are bubbling when you exhale? You can see honeycombing bubbles on the sides of the glass if you add a bit more water.
Step 6: Remove the bowl from the bong.
You don't want to knock the whole thing over while packing.
Step 7: Remove any ash from the bowl.
Make sure the bowl has enough air in it.To feel air on the other side of the bowl, blow on it.You're golden if air gets through easily.Remove any debris that may be stuck in the bowl with a pointed tool, like a safety pin or mechanical pencil.Enough air is the key to smooth smoke.
Step 8: Remove seeds, stems, and leaves from your smoking material.
Break up your smoking material into small pieces. If you're using a grinder to grind up your smoking material, make sure to remove any seeds or stems before you start. It's best to remove the seeds, stems, and leafs that compromise the purity of your smoke. You should give the grinder a quick, coarse grind if you choose to use it.Finely ground smoking material can get sucked into the chamber and become extinguished before it has time to release its seductive smoke. It's sometimes referred to as "snapping the bowl."
Step 9: You should pack the bowl with your smoking material.
The smoke will drift away from the bowl if it is packed over the top edge.If you have a large hole in the bottom of your bowl, break off a bigger piece of smoking material and use it to block it.The herb can't be sucked into the downstem.Make sure the bowl isn't so full that your smoking material falls out or that it's so tightly packed that no air can pass through.Medium-light consistency is what you should pack your material in.You want to get as much material in your bowl as possible while still being able to pull air through it with each inhale.
Step 10: Put the bowl in the bong.
Don't feel like you need to cram it in.You need to remove the bowl to smoke from the water bong.
Step 11: The bong should be held in your non-dominant hand.
The bong is made to fit in your hands and most people grasp it firmly around the neck. The bottom can be found on a flat surface or in your lap.The rule for beginners is to keep the bong on a flat surface to minimize the chance of it falling and breaking. If you aren't prepared, advanced bong users can be seen gripping the bong without any support underneath, which can lead to accidents. If you can't find a flat surface to hold the bong on, rest it on your stomach or between your legs.To plug up the hole in the bong, hold the piece with one finger. You will end up with no smoke in the chamber if you don't draw in outside air. It's important that you can uncover the hole as well.
Step 12: Put your lips inside the opening.
You should not wrap your lips around the outside of the mouth.Push your lips into the inside of the tube. You won't be able to draw smoke out if the entire opening is sealed. If you want to practice good, wipe your mouth, put your lips inside the inhale hole, or both. You will create a better vacuum and you won't slobber all over the bong, making the next hit unpleasant.
Step 13: While simultaneously inhaling, hold the lighter up to the edge of the bowl.
If you want to tilt the lighter over the bowl, you have to strike it with your free hand.As you begin inhaling, you should pull the flame into the bowl to ignite your smoking material. If you don't want to inhale the fumes of a lighter or deal with the hassle of many moving parts, try lighting hemp wicks instead. The term "bee line" refers to the organic lighting string that burn slowly and stay lit.Light the end like a candle and use it to light the bowl.
Step 14: The flame should be removed once the bowl catches it.
The bowl will fill with smoke once the herb is lit.The key is to exhale slowly. You don't want to be inhaling a lot of smoke inside the bong's chamber.Once the smoking material is lit, it will stay lit as you pull air through it, helping the rest of the bowl catch as well.It should only take a few seconds. When you start running out of breath, move on.If you have one big, quick breath left in your lungs, you don't want to be completely winded.
Step 15: Remove the bowl if you want to exhale the smoke.
To get the smoke into your lungs, you need to allow fresh air to flow through. If you want to pull the bowl out, use the hand that held the lighter to do so.Take a deep breath and inhale all the smoke from the bowl. Many beginning smokers don't know how much air they have left.If you are unsure, remove the bowl after the chamber has filled up with smoke.
Step 16: Remove immediately.
Most pleasurable compounds are absorbed instantly if you keep the smoke in your lungs. If the bowl is finished, put it back into the downstem.
Step 17: Smoke from the water bong needs to be cleared before it can be passed on.
Many smokers prefer not to smoke left over smoke.Blow lightly through the downstem to get the smoke out of the bong.If you exhale back into the bong, it will spill the water out of the downstem and cause the bowl to wet.
Step 18: Don't drink into the bong.
The first few times you hit a bong, it's easy to get wet. This is not good smoking behavior. As the calm of a smoking product takes hold, no one wants to think about drooling. To avoid drooling into the bong, try these tricks: If you feel like drooling, stop inhaling, put out the bowl with the heel of your lighter, and close your mouth. If you do this, your mouth is still in its original position.Try to swallow as much saliva as possible.Put the bowl out if you stop inhaling. You can cover the inhale hole with an open palm by taking your mouth out.Try again if you wipe your mouth on your sleeve.
Step 19: After each hit, wipe the mouth off with a shirt or sleeve.
You're probably friends, but that doesn't mean you should keep everything neat.
Step 20: Only light a corner of the bowl.
If you're supposed to share the bowl with other people, it's rude to smoke all of it.If the owner of the bong is packing a "one-hitter," that means they only put enough smoking product in for one person.Light the entire bowl if it is.If it isn't, you can try "cornering:" Focus the flame of your lighter on the side of the bowl, only dipping a little of it into it.As this has the best taste, leave as much of the bowl unburnt as possible. The center and sides will light up, saving the rest for someone else.
Step 21: When there is nothing but ash, clean the bowl.
No one wants to smoke the dregs. The person who packed the bowl should get the slide back. They will either pack a new one or call it quits.
Step 22: The water should be changed when it becomes discolored.
The smoke will cause the water to turn tan and smell bad.If you want a better taste and smoke, you should rinse it out and put in fresh water every few hits.It will be easier to clean the piece later on.
Step 23: Ipsen alcohol and salt can be used to clean a tube.
Your water bong is going to get dirty no matter how often you change the water. It's easy to clean a piece if you do it frequently. All you need is some alcohol and salt, but you can also use cleaning products like Simple Green or Grunge for a deeper clean.Other home cleaning remedies include: baking soda, hot water and denture tablets.
Step 24: Remove all of the pieces from the water.
Use a paper towel to wipe the pieces away and then pat them dry.If a piece of the bong slips off, it can lead to a heartbreaking accident. If you don't want to taste it later, try to keep the water out of the mouth.
Step 25: Place the bowl and downstem in small bags to be filled with alcohol.
Put the pieces aside to soak and make sure there is enough alcohol to cover the surfaces. If possible, use 91% alcohol, as it is far more effective than 70% alcohol. You should soak the pieces overnight if they are dirty.
Step 26: The bong should be filled with 1-2 ounces of large grain salt.
If your bong is a foot tall or larger, use coarse grained salt.Salt can be used to scrub the inside of the bong without ever touching it.
Step 27: Shake the piece with 1/2 cup of alcohol.
The alcohol will make the smell go away, and the salt will remove the bits of resin. To plug the hole in the stem, use one hand to cover the top of the piece and the other to shake it.Think of the salt as a sponge and use it to wipe away any spots. While you take care of the downstem and bowl, let the piece sit and soak.
Step 28: Put a little salt in the bags and shake it.
Since the bowl and downstem are often dirtier than the bong, it's a good idea to let these pieces soak a little.Just like the bong, add some salt to the bag and shake it up to get it to pass through the pieces. You should use separate bags for the two pieces as shaking can cause them to damage one another.
Step 29: Q-tips and pipe cleaners can be used to clean up messes.
It's a good idea to wipe away anything that sticks around after exposure to alcohol. You will usually have better luck if you soak the pieces overnight and repeat the salt scrub in the morning.
Step 30: All the pieces should be washed with hot water.
Remove any salt and alcohol from the pieces.Continue to enjoy them if you set them aside to drive. To make it sparkle, mix hot water with the juice from half a lemon and shake up the bong.
Step 31: You should clean your bong every few weeks.
It takes 5 minutes to clean out the bong, compared to an hour to remove large pieces. If you smoke daily, take some time to do a simple salt scrub frequently, once a week, and you will be the happy owner of a clean bong for years to come.
