How To Use Clonezilla

Clonezilla is an open source hard drive cloning program.It is used to make a copy of a hard drive.In order to use this software, you will need a blank CD/DVD, a spare internal or external hard drive, or both.

Step 1: Clonezilla Live is a stable version.

The current version of Clonezilla can be found on the Sourceforge page.Clonezilla can be downloaded from the website.

Step 2: The ISO file can be burned onto a CD or DVD.

Depending on the operating system you are using, the process for burning Clonezilla onto a CD/DVD will be different.Clonezilla Live is a zip file that you can download if you want to use a drive.If you don't want to create your own Clonezilla Live CD/DVD or USB drive, you can purchase CloneZilla CDs and USB drives.

Step 3: You should install an external or internal drive.

Make sure that your computer has a blank external or internal hard drive connected to it.The destination drive needs to be bigger than the source drive in order for the disk clone to work.

Step 4: You can use the Clonezilla CD/DVD orusb drive.

Depending on your operating system and computer, the process to boot from a CD/DVD will be different.Put Clonezilla Live CD/DVD into your computer and then restart it.Press F2, F10, or Del if you want to enter the computer bios menu.If you want to change the first boot device to CD-ROM, you have to go to the boot menu.You can put the Clonezilla Live CD/DVD into your computer on a Mac.Press and hold the C key while the computer restarts.

Step 5: You can choose the Clonezilla mode.

Clonezilla Live will use the default mode options once it loads.The up or down arrow keys can be used to navigate to different menu options if you want other modes.

Step 6: Pick a language.

To select a language, use the up or down arrow keys and then press the Enter key.

Step 7: You can choose the keyboard layout.

Select the Don't touch keymap menu option and then press the Enter key on the Configuring console-data screen.The US keyboard is the default layout of Clonezilla.Select keymap from arch list or from full list options if you are using another keyboard layout.

Step 8: Clonezilla can be started.

Pick the Start Clonezilla option and then press the Enter key.

Step 9: You can choose the device-image option.

Press the spacebar if you want to select the device-image option.An asterisk is added to show that it has been selected.The Enter key should be pressed.You can clone the hard disk onto another drive instead of on a partition.

Step 10: The local_dev option is the one to choose.

Press the spacebar to select the option.An asterisk is added to show it has been selected.The Enter key needs to be pressed.You can clone the hard disk to an internal or external disk with this option.

Step 11: The sdb1 option is available.

Press the space to select it after moving the cursor to the sdb1 8G_ext4 option.An asterisk is added to show that it has been selected.The Enter key should be pressed.You can clone the disk to the first partition on the second disk.

Step 12: The Clonezilla image is in the directory.

Press the spacebar if you want to select the Top_directory_in_the_local_ device option.The Enter key should be pressed.Press the Enter key if you want to continue.

Step 13: You can choose the beginner mode.

Press the spacebar if you want to select the Beginner option.An asterisk is added to show it has been selected.The Enter key should be pressed.This article doesn't cover expert mode options.

Step 14: You can choose the save disk option.

Press the spacebar if you want to select it from the save disk option.The Enter key should be pressed.

Step 15: Pick a name for the disk image.

Press the Enter key if you want to type a name for the saved image.The saved disk image name should include the date.

Step 16: You can clone the disk by selecting it.

Move the mouse over the disk you want to clone, and then press the spacebar to select it.The Enter key needs to be pressed.You should know the name of the drive you want to clone.If you don't know, Cancel the process, check the disk name, and restart from the beginning.

Step 17: You shouldn't check the file system.

Press the Enter key if you want to choose the Skip checking/repairing file system option.If you are worried that the source drive is damaged or corrupted, you can complete an interactive file system check with the -fscj-src-part option.

Step 18: You can check the saved image.

Press the Enter key if you want to check the saved image option.

Step 19: Decide if you want to continue.

This is the last step before the cloning process begins.If you don't know if you want to continue, type N and then press the Enter key.To clone the hard disk, type Y and then press the Enter key.Clonezilla begins the cloning process if you choose to continue.

Step 20: Clonezilla, quit.

When the hard disk cloning is done, type 2 and then press the Enter key.Press the spacebar if you want to choose the Poweroff option on the Choose mode screen.Clonezilla will ask you to remove the CD/DVD before the computer shuts down.Then press the Enter key.Your computer won't work anymore.

Step 21: You can choose the Clonezilla mode.

Clonezilla Live will use the default mode options once it loads.Use the up or down arrow keys to navigate to different menu options if you want other modes.

Step 22: Pick a language.

Step 23: You can choose the keyboard layout.

Step 24: Clonezilla should start.

Press the spacebar if you want to select the device-image option.An asterisk is added to show that it has been selected.The Enter key needs to be pressed.This option will make a clone of the hard disk on another drive.

Step 26: The local_dev option is the one to choose.

Press the spacebar to select the option.An asterisk is added to show it has been selected.The Enter key needs to be pressed.You can clone the hard disk to an internal or external disk.

Step 27: The sdb1 option is available.

Press the space to select it after moving the cursor to the sdb1 8G_ext4 option.An asterisk is added to show it has been selected.The Enter key needs to be pressed.You can clone the disk to the first partition on the second disk.

Step 28: The Clonezilla image can be found in the directory.

Press the spacebar if you want to select the Top_directory_in_the_local_device option.The Enter key needs to be pressed.Go to the disk usage report and press the Enter key.

Step 29: Choose the beginner mode.

Press the spacebar if you want to select the beginner option.An asterisk is added to show it has been selected.The Enter key needs to be pressed.The source and destination drives need to be connected to your computer and turned on in order to restore a drive.

Step 30: A cloned disk can be restored.

Press the spacebar and choose the restore disk option.

Step 31: To restore the cloned disk image, select it.

Press the Enter key if you want to restore a cloned disk image.

Step 32: The target disk should be selected.

Press the Enter key if you want to restore the target disk.On the next screen, choose the target disk, then press the spacebar and enter.If you restore a cloned drive to a target disk, you will cause the content on that disk to be erased.

Step 33: The restore should be confirmed.

If you want to restore a cloned disk, Clonezilla will ask you twice.When it asks you to, type Y and then press the Enter key.When it asks again, type Y and then press the Enter key.

Step 34: Clonezilla, quit.

When the hard disk cloning is complete, type 2 and then press the Enter key.Press the spacebar and choose the Poweroff option on the Choose mode screen.Clonezilla will prompt you to remove the CD/DVD before the computer shuts down.Then press the Enter key.Your computer will stop working.
