You can use multiple operating systems at the same time on a Windows PC.This is a good way to keep the computer's main operating system safe. There are many other uses.
Step 1: You can download the Microsoft Virtual PC from Microsoft's website.
Step 2: You need to install the program.
It's important that you are running Windows XP or higher. The program may run on older systems.
Step 3: You should be asked to make a virtual machine when you start the program.
Click the "New..." button if you don't see it.
Step 4: Click the next button if you want to create a virtual machine.
Step 5: For example, if you are going to install the operating system on the machine, you should type a name for it.
Next, click.
Step 6: Pick the operating system you are going to install.
Click "Other" if the operating system you are going to install isn't there.
Step 7: Depending on the operating system you are using, you may want to change the amount of RAM it uses.
Don't choose more RAM than your computer has.The main operating system is still running. If you have 512 MB of real RAM, you may want the virtual RAM to be 128 MB.Some older operating systems don't support 512 MB of RAM.It's pointless to have more than what the operating system supports.
Step 8: Next, click "A New Virtual Hard Disk".
You can choose where to put the virtual hard disk. The default is usually fine. The size of your hard drive should be1024 megabyte.
Step 9: The wizard needs to be finished.
There is something new in the Virtual PC console box.It should have a virtual PC.
Step 10: Click on it and start.
When you first start your computer, you should see a bunch of lines of text.
Step 11: Attach the install disk to your operating system.
Step 12: Follow the instructions on the install disk.
Hold the right Alt key and drag the mouse out of the operating system's box if you get bored while installing.Press Enter if you want to do the right Alt key.The install will continue as usual.
Step 13: The install should go smoothly if it is done correctly.
Hold the Alt key and press the R key to restart the computer. The system should boot like a real computer.
Step 14: Thank you.
Your first virtual system was set up.What you do next is up to you.
