Most of us use the telephone on a daily basis, but we may not always do so in the recommended way. There are some steps you can take to improve your phone experience.
Step 1: If you want to use the phone, turn off the television.
Step 2: Say "hello" always.
Unless you already know who is calling, do not say anything else.Random words and jokes can be off-putting to callers.
Step 3: When answering a business call, use an approved company greeting.
Don't just say "hello", as some callers will think this is not professional.
Step 4: The line should ring at least five times.
The other party has enough time to finish their work and come to the phone. If you want to chat, hang up at five rings, otherwise it will bother the other party.
Step 5: Ask anyone you can if it is a good time to call.
Don't just start a monologue without checking to see if the other person is busy.
Step 6: The purpose of the call should be stated early in the conversation, and you should thank the other person before you finish.
