Do you find it hard to find the perfect page-saver in your favorite novels? You can make your own bookmark in dozens of styles, so you never lose track of your reading again. You can learn how to make a paper bookmark in the directions below.
Step 1: Choose the right paper.
Select a heavy paper to act as the support for your bookmark, and then choose an image or pattern to glue over the top.If you want, you can combine other papers or choose multiple images.
Step 2: The paper should be cut.
The size of the bookmark is up to you.If you want to make a more traditional sized bookmark, you can cut the cardstock into a small, less obtrusive bookmark only an inch long. You don't want the bookmark to stick out the bottom of the book as well as the top, so make it shorter than six inches.
Step 3: You can add your details.
You can cut and glue the paper onto the card stock. If you want to add style to your craft, you can glue a piece of textured paper or a cut-out from a magazine over the entire card stock.Adding glitter or stickers to your bookmarks is a great way to make them stand out.You can add words, phrases, or quotes to your bookmark with markers or pens. You can add your own details to the bits of paper and pictures you glue on.If you cut out images from magazines, you can combine them on your piece of paper. You can take your own pictures as well.
Step 4: You should cover your bookmark.
Adding a protective covering to your bookmark is a way to protect the paper from being damaged. If you can, make your bookmark with plastic. You can use packing tape on both sides of your bookmark to create this effect.Consider using a liquid gel to paint your bookmark.Allow drying periods between coats by painting one side at a time.
Step 5: You should add your finishing touches.
A hole at the top of your bookmark can be created using a hole-punch.Cut a piece of ribbon and fold it in half.Put the loop-end of the ribbon through the hole punch and slide the tail ends through it.Add more color and texture to your bookmarks with multiple ribbons. You can use beads on the ends of your ribbon.Take a few beads and tie a knot to secure the ribbon tails. To burn the cut-ends of the ribbons, use a match or lighter. The plastic will melt as a result of the flame.
Step 6: You can choose your ribbon and beads.
The ribbon should be thin and flexible with no wire.If the holes are big enough to fit the ribbon, your beads can be of any size and style. You can hang a charm bead from the end of your ribbons.
Step 7: Cut the ribbon.
Use scissors to cut your ribbon. The ends of the ribbons should be cauterized with a match or lighter.
Step 8: Attach your beads.
You can hang the beads from the bottom of the bookmark. If you choose a charm, add it to the center of the ribbon and then fold it in half, threading your other beads over the tails. If you don't use a charm, place a single bead in the center of the ribbon and fold it in half to make it secure. When you add all the ones you want, tie a knot at the base of the beads.Leave about a 10 inch space, and then tie a knot with both of the ribbon tails. If you want to add beads to the top of the bookmark, tie a knot to keep them from falling off.
Step 9: You can use your bookmarks.
The space between the two pieces of ribbon should have been created by the fold in the center of the ribbon. If you want to mark a page in your book, place the ribbon on it and the other on the front cover. This will keep your bookmarks safe.
Step 10: You should create a template.
Draw a 5 x 5 inch square with a pencil on a piece of scratch paper.Four small squares are created within the one large square by dividing it into four sections.Remove the top right square so that you have three small squares.
Step 11: The top left square should be divided between the bottom left corner and the top right corner.
The square should have been split into two triangles. The bottom right square should be the same shape as the bottom left square.
Step 12: Put in the triangles.
You can shade the top and bottom-most triangles with your pencil. You should be left with a shape that is comprised of a square on the bottom right with two triangles attached to the top and right sides.
Step 13: Take out your shape.
Cut along the perimeter of the shape you have created. You should be left with a shape similar to an arrow.
Step 14: To make a bookmark, use your template.
Place the shape you just cut on a piece of paper of your choice.Once you have traced it, cut out the shape from your paper.
Step 15: The shape should be folded.
The triangles are still connected to the square. The two triangles should form a square again.
Step 16: Place the bookmark there.
Attach glue to the top triangle and the bottom triangle to create a pocket. To make a symmetrical figure, cut off the base of the square along the triangle pocket.Your form is complete.
Step 17: Your bookmark should be decorated.
You can add more decorative paper to your triangle pocket. You could draw a picture or write a song lyrics on the front. You are finished when you are happy with the product. You need to mark the corner of the page in your favorite book.
Step 18: There is some pretty scrap fabric.
If you have a portion of the fabric that is at least one inch wide and five inches long, you can use it.To make a bow, add a bit of fabric stiffener to the scrap pieces.
Step 19: The fabric needs to be cut.
You will need to make a loop for the bow, tails and a center loop to hold it together. The strip for the bow should be 34 of an inch wide and 4.5 inches long. The center piece should be 14 of an inch wide and 1.5 inches long to form the tails.
Step 20: Put the pieces together.
You can combine the ends of the longest strip of fabric by folding it into a loop. The tail-piece should be centered on the back of the loop. The classic bow shape can be created with a bit of thread and a knot.
Step 21: The paperclip should be added.
The back of the bow is where your knot has been tied.Wrap the small center piece of fabric around the paper clip at the back so the ends meet.Attach the bow, paper clip, and center strip of fabric with a dot of hot glue.
Step 22: You can use your bookmark.
Give a few minutes for the hot glue to cool, and then use your bookmark by sliding the paper clip over any page.Don't damage the bow, it will stick out from the top.
Step 23: Pick your paper.
You will need a thick paper for this. When you are done with the assembly, you can add more decorative paper to your bookmark.
Step 24: The paper should be cut to size.
A strip of paper is 2 inches wide and 6 inches long. The paper should be folded down the center so that there are two halves measuring 2 x 3 inches.
Step 25: The magnets can be added.
Take small magnets or sheets of magnetic paper and cut them into small pieces. Each piece should be Glued to the inside of the folded paper. The magnets should connect when the paper is folded in half.
Step 26: You can decorate your bookmark.
Add other pieces of decorative paper to the front and back of your bookmark, or draw your own images or quotes onto it.Adding glitter or sequins to the paper will make it sparkle. If you want to prevent the paper from coming off, seal your bookmark with a liquid gel medium.
Step 27: You can use your bookmarks.
The folded mark should be placed over a single page in your book. The bookmark should be placed near the spine of the page to prevent it from falling out.
Step 28: On a clean plastic or glass surface, highlight the design of your bookmark.
Step 29: The design should be covered with white glue.
