Similar to hockey, floorball is a game in which the goal is to hit the ball into the net using a stick. Each team has 5 players and a goalie, and each teammate has a role, such as attacker, defender, or center. The skills needed to play floorball are shooting, passing, and dribbling. You'll be ready to play a floorball game once you learn the rules.
Step 1: 2 teams made up of 5 players and a goalie.
The teams have 2 defenders, 1 center, 2 attackers, and a goalie. You can play with 3 players each, but each team needs a goalie. The teams need to be even if 5 people are playing on one team. There is a maximum of 20 players on the roster.
Step 2: It's a good idea to wear protective gear while playing.
The player should wear goggles to protect their eyes. The goalkeeper wears long pants, a long sleeve shirt, knee pads, gloves, and a mask.If you don't have protective eyewear, you can still play floorball, but you should wear goggles.
Step 3: You can use a field twice as long as it is wide.
The playing field for floorball is 40 by 20 metres.Make sure the proportions are correct if you need to play somewhere else. There should be a goal in the middle of the field.
Step 4: Set a timer for 20 minutes.
There is a 10-minute break between periods. The time stops if the ball is not in play. The game can be played in 3 15-minute periods so that it lasts less than an hour.30 seconds is the length of the time-out for each team.
Step 5: Start each game with a face-off.
The ball should be in the center of the court. One teammate from each team should place their blades so that the ball is next to the center of the blade without touching it yet.2 teammates try to hit the ball back to their teammates after the whistle. There should be 2 blades parallel to one another with the ball in the middle before the whistle blows.Don't touch the ball with your blade until the whistle blows. You play with a face-off if a goal is scored.
Step 6: You can score goals by hitting a ball into the goal.
Similar to hockey, floorball uses a long stick with a blade to move a ball into the goal.In order to win, your team needs to score the most goals and prevent the other team from scoring.Similar to a whiffle ball, the plastic hollow ball has holes in it.You can choose between softer and harder blades when you pick out a stick.
Step 7: The stick should not be raised above your knee or waist during the game.
Players are not allowed to move their sticks above a certain height during the game. The stick should not go above your knee if you are receiving the ball. The stick cannot go above your waist if you are shooting. It is better to keep your stick lower than you need to make sure you don't lift it too high.Penalties can be caused by your stick going above the allowed height.
Step 8: During the game, keep your hands off of the ball.
Unless you're the goalkeeper, you can't handle the ball with your hands or head.Avoid any contact with your body by using your stick to pass, receive, and shoot the ball. The use of your hands or head could result in a penalty.
Step 9: Do not play aggressively.
You are not allowed to use the stick to hurt others, and there shouldn't be any pushing or tackling. If you are a respectful player and stick to the rules, you can play shoulder to shoulder. It could result in a 2-minute penalty if you do push, tackle, throw your stick, or act aggressively.
Step 10: If you want to win the game, you have to score the most points.
The floorball game is over after 3 20-minute sessions. The winner is the team that scored the most goals. Both teams play for 10 extra minutes if there is a tie.
Step 11: If you're a defender, defend against the attackers.
The other team's attackers should not be allowed to shoot. If they have the ball, it will be harder for them to get a clean shot.As often as possible, intercept passes from the other team. There will be two defenders, one left and one right.
Step 12: As an attacker, try to score goals.
Attackers try to evade the other team's defenders so that the ball can be passed to them.If you are an attacker, you want to get the ball so that you can shoot.Either look for another teammate who is open or try to score a goal when you create space for the ball to be passed to you. Each team should have a left and a right attacker.
Step 13: As a center, support the defense and attack.
Playing center is about positioning yourself so that you can help the attackers and defenders. You should pay attention to who is in control of the ball so that you can help.Centers should practice attacking and defending.
Step 14: As the goalkeeper, prevent the ball from reaching the goal.
The other team's shots were blocked by the goalie. The goalkeeper can use their hands while inside the box, trying to catch the ball before it reaches the net.The goalie is not allowed to use their hands if they are outside of the box.Goalkeepers sit on their knees to help defend the goal.Goalkeepers do not have sticks.
Step 15: The stick should be comfortable to use.
Pick out your floorball stick and hold it to find one that is comfortable.Your dominant hand will tell you what stick to use.If you want to get an accurate feel for the stick, do a few practice swings pretending to hit a ball.People who are right handed often use a left stick.
Step 16: You can increase your strength by running.
Unless you are a goalkeeper, you will be running a lot while playing floorball.Extra time to run is needed to ensure you have an advantage over the opposing team. You won't get as tired playing the game if you're used to running. It is possible to run for 30 minutes every other day.
Step 17: It's a good idea to practice passing and receiving the ball.
Before trapping the ball, follow it backwards with your stick.Release the ball when it is in front of you for the most control and impact.A friend will help you practice passing and receiving.
Step 18: You should learn to dribble.
When you use the middle part of the stick, you can pass the ball back and forth between your sticks. It takes a lot of practice to get great at dribbling.Pass the ball from your left foot to your right foot slowly. When you get better at dribbling, start practicing passing the ball from your left foot to your right foot, gradually decreasing the distance between passes.
Step 19: Shoot the ball into the goal.
There are many ways to score. In a slap shot, the ball should be in front of you before you hit it.Wrist shots don't require you to raise your stick, as you just hit the ball with the stick using a flick of your wrist.Drag shots are when you drag the ball around to the front of your body before hitting it.
Step 20: Pair up with someone and pass the ball around.
Take turns stopping the ball with the stick when the other person passes it to them.If you want to hit the ball farther, you have to expand the distance between you.
Step 21: Pass the ball while running.
If you run in a wide circle, you can pass the ball to the person in front of you.If there are only 2 of you, pass the ball back and forth. As you pass the ball with the stick, make sure you don't stop to gain control.
Step 22: Dribble the ball around cones to improve ball control.
Make sure there's enough room between the small cones for you to run through easily. The stick is used to control the direction of the ball.Change the line of cones into a shape as you get better.
Step 23: Shoot the ball from different angles.
After setting the ball on the ground, shoot it into the net from the left side of the goal.Shoot the ball from all angles until you reach the right side of the net. It's okay to be close to the net when you first start shooting. You have to shoot from farther away as you get better.
Step 24: Before you shoot, ask a friend or teammate to pass the ball.
This will teach you how to take a shot directly from a pass.If you want to practice taking aim at the net, you should have another person pass the ball to you as you run.
Step 25: As the goalkeeper, protect the net.
To score goals from different angles, ask another player.Get better at defending the goal by catching or redirecting the ball.Don't forget to wear proper gear when practicing, such as eyewear, knee pads, and gloves.
