I accidentally swallowed a chicken bone, should I seek medical attention?
A chicken bone was swallowed by my dog.I'm not sure if it will hurt him, he's an English mastiff and is 144 pounds, but my parents say he could die from it.?
It made it down his throat if he wasn't gagging. You have to see if it makes it through his stomach.
He needs to poop.An obstruction could be caused by the bones.Chicken bones are soft and a dog's stomach acid is potent.
If he is pooping, you need to look at it to see if there is blood. It's possible that the blood is cutting him up inside.
If that happens, feed him plain cooked rice and ground beef until the vet can see him.
Chances are that a Mastiff will live.He might get a sore tummy.
Is it cooked?Damage to the dog's digestive system can be caused by splinters.
If your dog is fine after a few days, you can breathe a sigh of relief. You have to watch for any sign of distress or abnormality, such as blood in the poo.You need to call the vet if you see anything that isn't right. It could be life threatening.
He may or may not have problems if he eats raw or cooked it.Even though a raw diet is better for a dog than a cooked one, raw bones can be bad for dogs if they eat them.
Since your dog "swallowed" a large chicken bone, there is a danger either way.It is more likely that he will not have a problem since he doesn't do this often.
