If you have more than 7 clients, you can still have a Genie 2.

The background-color is important.

When you have more than three clients, all three are active and you attempt to use the fourth client, what happens?

You'll get a message telling you that the genie is busy and that you can interrupt one of the units in use.I wouldn't add any more clients, but I would add a HD DVR.It's a good idea to assign the HD DVR to the kids, let them record and manage it as they please, and don't record or destroy the genie. We allow our teen age boy to watch any of the programs on the DVR's, but he is only allowed to manage them.

I knew the answer but assumed you would want another's perspective.I didn't answer your question.

If a Geni can address 8 clients, why can't they watch three stations?I was told by the person that my HD DVR is always on.

The HR 44/54 Genie has 5 tuners to stream to 3 minis at a time, and the other 2 are for the Genie andPIP.Since the HRDVR is independent, it doesn't use the Genie tuners.

It is recommended that clients have HDDVRs with 2 tuners and 500GB of recording space.

The Genie-2 can support more clients at the same time.It forbids HDDVRs from being on the account so is a very restrictive system and if it goes down all TVs go with it.The setup of the genie is better.
