Ikea Hack: How to Stain Your Ivar Cabinet for More...
The Ivar cabinet is one of the most hacked pieces of Ikea.It is a very versatile piece of furniture which is why it is so popular. The ikea Ivar cabinet is less popular but it is a really good way to enhance it.
It doesn't look like much when you first see it in the showroom. It is hard to believe that the result can be as stunning as what you see on the internet. It is an easy piece to paint or stain since it is made out of raw solid pine.
If you want to add character to your Ivar cabinet, wood stain is a great option. There is a sort of natural elegance to the wood. The Ikea Ivar cabinet has been stained to give it a kind of timeless feel.
If you want a more elegant and timeless look while keeping the warm feeling of the wood, choose a wood stain.
The size of your Ivar cabinet is the first thing you need to choose. There are two different dimensions to choose from.
It depends on what you are going to do with it.The narrow one is more suited for a hallway. The deeper one is better for larger rooms like a dining room or a living room.
I used it to store everything related to the entryway in my hallway.I needed more storage so I bought two cabinets. You can have more than that, 3, 4 cabinets side by side or one above the other. There are many ways to use the Ivar cabinet.
It's a good idea to build your Ivar cabinet after staining it to make sure everything is done.
The first challenge will be choosing the right shade of wood stain.Stains are named after the type of wood they are imitating. This is a good clue. There is no guarantee that the result will be what you want.I would suggest testing it on the inside of the cabinet.
N.B.The brand V33 has a stain called chne rustic mat.Home Depot has a similar option, but you have to test it first to see if you like it.
You can start sanding the cabinet once you have chosen your stain. The idea is to make the wood more receptive to stain.Sand in the direction of the wood veins.
The first coat of wood stain can be applied once you are done.I have used a synthetic bristle brush, but you can also use a piece of cloth or foam pad.It depends on the type of stain you choose. To avoid streaks, spread the substance well.
The first application should be dried for about 20 minutes. Then repeat the step again. The idea is to remove any clumps in order to prepare the surface for the second coat.
You can apply a second coat of wood stain to get a deeper shade.Just repeat step 3 again.I did two coats because one was light for my taste.
Even the inside of the cabinets should be stained. It bugs me when I open it because I didn't do it.The inside can be painted in a suitable color just like point 8.
Thank you for reaching out.You like this hack! This is explained in the Ikea instruction manual. There is a wooden bar inside the cabinet that can be hung on the wall.Make sure you choose the right pins and screws for the wall you have.If you want to know what to take, check with your local hardware store.Hope this helps.
People. There are a lot of IKEA hacks out there.I wrote about staining my IVAR cabinet and hacking my ikea sofa.Updating your IKEA furniture is a good and easy way to do so.
I gave my peg rail a darker wood color. There is an article about how to stain your Ivar cabinet. It is basically the same.
You did a great job.I like it.I have the same cabinet that I was looking at.I don't know where that gold dispensers is or what it is.!
Thank you for your compliment. The brass mist sprayer is used to humidify plants. It is a really cool device. If you buy from this link, I will get a small commission but it doesn't change the price for you and it helps me keep doing what I do.
I would like to know what item you put on top of the cabinet. Some shelves are fixed. Thanks in advance.
Thank you for your comment, Philip.I will try to answer your question. There are no shelves on top of the cabinet, instead there is a wooden board.Let me know if you meant what you said.
There is a gap between the doors on the Ivar.Yours doesn't seem to have that.Did you do anything to change this? Thanks!
Thank you for bringing that up.There is a small gap between the doors. There is a way to remove the spacing without altering the cabinet. The small screws on the doors allow you to manage this space if you tighten them more or less.It was not easy to understand, but only needs to be done once.
