"The One with the Embryos" was written and directed by Kevin S.It was bright.Lisa Kudrow and her husband were expecting their first child in 1997.When she found out that Kudrow was pregnant, she wanted to incorporate it into the show without covering it up.At the time of filming "The One with the Embryos" in December, Kudrow was four months pregnant and the writers discussed ways of narrating the pregnancy on the show.[5]

According to David Crane, the story of Phoebe carrying Frank and Alice's baby was considered risky. The main concern when the plot was first discussed was whether it was too crazy. The storyline would not have been believable if it weren't for the actors.Giovanni Ribisi's continuous filming commitments made it difficult for the producers to get him to reprise his role as Frank Jr. on a longer term basis. There was a similar situation with the cast member of That '70s Show.[5]

The chick and the duck, who first appeared in "The One with a Chick and a Duck", were used as a spark for the main plot. The producers thought the animals got so much mileage out of them that they made recurring appearances. As many television shows used similar fictional pets, the producers decided on a chicken and duck as their own.[6]

The idea for the contest was partially based on a real game that the writer watched his friends play. The "Miss Chanandler Bong" joke was inspired by a childhood incident in which his name was not spelled correctly.[7]

According to TV Guide, the writers felt it was important that the contest reveal new information about the characters. The answer "Viva Las Gay-gas" was given in response to the question "What is the name of the show in Vegas?"Crane said the drafts changed about a million times.Writers continued to pitch for different answers on the night the show was being filmed in order to get a better response from the audience. It was difficult for the staff to come up with different points of view for each character as they all wanted to win the game.[5]

The writers decided to go through with the apartment switch to avoid creating fake stakes."If we do it, we have to stick to it," Crane said. There was never a discussion of changing the look of the apartment because they were in spaces they shouldn't be in, according to Bright.[7]
