2mm is about 16 Ga, I fabricated a lot of light railings and other items from 16 Ga. steel of about 30 kips in strength. In a column it is quite strong but if the column is 30 feet tall and the square tube is only 1″ it will collapse with out much weight on it.

What thickness is mild steel?
Mild Steel Plates can come in various sizes and grades. Thicknesses available range from 3mm up to as thick as 150mm.
How thick is a sheet of steel?
In the U.S., the thickness of sheet metal is commonly specified by a traditional, non-linear measure known as its gauge. The larger the gauge number, the thinner the metal. Commonly used steel sheet metal ranges from 30 gauge to about 7 gauge.
Is 1.5 mm steel strong?

How strong is a piece of steel?
The average tensile and yield strength of a piece of carbon steel can vary tremendously depending on the steel's carbon content and other manufacturing factors. AISI 1020 steel, a low-carbon mild steel, has a yield strength of 47,900 psi and a tensile strength of 65,300 psi.7 feb 2020
The average dinner plate we commonly use today measures 11 or 12 inches across. A few decades ago plates measured 7 to 9 inches. In Europe, the average plate measures 9 inches while some American restaurants use plates that are around 13 inches in diameter.
How do you choose plate thickness?
If you know the weight of the plate and its area (length and width), you can calculate thickness. First divide the weight of the plate by the steel density. 7.85 g/cc - that would give the volume of the plate. Now divide the volume by the area and you get the thickness.
What are standard plate sizes?
Traditionally, a standard dinner plate has always had a diameter of 10.5 inches. In recent years, however, increasing numbers of restaurants have chosen to use larger 11 or 12 inch plates. ... Larger dinner plates are also available for use in carveries, or for the most generous portion sizes.
How thick should a steel plate be?
In most metals but not all, plate generally starts at 0.188″ (3/16″) thick.
Is standard for steel plates?
IS 2062 is a product standard of BIS or Bureau of Indian standards. This grade is primarily specifying the standards for the high tensile structural steel for the hot rolled. This type of standard steel is used majorly for structural purposes.
