Is Harry Morgan still alive, how did he die, and who actually did the paintings that he did?
At the end of Season Four, Colonel Potter started painting. He paints Klinger holding a discus in his office after he paints a portrait of Radar in "The More I See You."
Occasionally the actual paintings are never shown, but over the next eight seasons he is seen painting numerous times.M*A*S*H fans have been curious about who painted these paintings. It wasn't actually Harry Morgan, he faked the act many times. It wasn't Gary Burghoff, an accomplished wildlife artist, or Kellye Nakahara, a accomplished watercolor artist.
The M*A*S*H Usenet group received a post from Larry Gelbart in January of 1997 stating that Burghoff was not the artist.
In February 2002, he responded to a question about whether Harry Morgan actually painted the paintings.
Who painted them?Michael Hirsh made a post about the artist responsible for the paintings.
The painter was hired by the M*A*S*H propmaster.
The MASH propmaster would pay a lot of money to have the paintings painted.A Hollywood propmaster would usually get those pictures painted.I am pretty sure that many artists in LA would have taken the job if he had hired them.
Potter works on two paintings in "The More I See You."He paints a portrait of Radar holding a bag.
Potter paints Charles with an angry expression on his face in "The Winchester Tapes."
Potter works on a self-portrait, using Klinger atop a horse as a body double, planning to work in his own face at a later date.He works on a painting while in bed.He paints a United States president.
In "War Co-Respondent," Potter and O'Shea discuss Potter's paintings, including an incomplete painting ofSophie and his paintings of Radar, Klinger, and Charles.Potter replied that he is not good on teeth when asked if he had ever done a painting of B.J.Potter received a drawing of B.J. at the end of the episode.
The paintings were hung in Potter's office.A portrait of Radar was on the wall behind his desk.Above Klinger with the discus it was seen on the wall to the left of the doors into the office.Potter replaced Radar with his thumb. There is a painting on the right side of the door. The painting of Charles was replaced by Hawkeye and his tongue depressor monument.Father Mulcahy's portrait was added to the wall below Charles.
The paintings were removed for unknown reasons. They are not present in any of the episodes actually produced for Season 11 but can be seen in episodes that were held over from Season 10.
The current location of the paintings is not known. The exhibit they were used in was called "Binding Up the Wounds".They could have been given to members of the cast or crew. They are not known to have been auctioned off.
He asked klinger if he was a little cold because of his blue skin, and he told him more latissamis. His at ease.Potter had all the different greek poses. It's a great life when you only have to watch MASH.
Dear, Tim.Yes, it is!M*A*S*H is still on the air in Australia and I am watching it.The mystery of who painted them will never be known. Why?Many dollar$ would be given to the artist or artisan.Where? Is the paintings now big dollars?Sell them before they are remembered.
When Potter had the mumps, he was painting in bed.We did not get to see that painting.
Not sure if this counts or not, but in one early Season Seven episode (not sure which one), Margaret goes on yet another rant about Donald: Potter's gathering his painting things, sees Margaret through the window, and rushes to beat it outside before she can come into the room.
I want to paint that sunset. It is only 4:00 in the afternoon.Potter likes to paint in the sky first.
I know it is not a Potter original, but what about the painting of BJ with a life preserver round his waist?
The artist were unknown to me.I would have been proud to paint a picture that was shown on the TV show MASH.
I was going to say that many of the paintings reappear in an episode of After MASH.Most of the contents of Colonel Potter's office arrive from Korea in the episode called "Chief of Staff".It was obvious that they were reproductions when I took a closer look. The painting of Father Mulcahy is not the same as the original. He is holding a teddy bear in the painting of Radar.
Being a huge fan of MASH, I am very lucky to be in possession of one of the famed "Potter's Paintings".I was fortunate to be at the right place. One of my favorite episodes of Hawkeye Get Your Gun is the painting I have. The chance to own the painting was too good to pass up.It is one of the most important things in my life.I have fond memories of watching the show with my family and they all watched it religiously.Like every other fan of the show, I was sad when the series ended. There is a reference to the series in my high school book. There is a special place in my heart for the show and painting.Even though it has been almost 30 years since the last episode, there are other big fans of the show.
It sounds like there is quite a bit of mystery shrouding these paintings. It might have been a rare eBay auction. The painting with Hawkeye's feet on the desk that M*I*K*E says he owns was briefly up on a site where someone asked the same question. If it was on eBay, there would be a lot of commotion about it, but the details seem to match up.If the auction was one of those that got sucked into the large space of eBay, it would be a good place to look for it when it was up.M*I*K*E was able to own a piece of history.
M*I*K*E, thank you for getting one of those paintings. Is there a way to get to any other one of them?Thank you.
Is there a chance you would post a higher resolution picture for us?A shot good enough for a fan to print and hang in his office is not a scans.
I hunted for this painting.I had forgotten about it for a long time, but one day it popped to the top of my brain and I started laughing and the hunt began. This must have been before you replied.I would prefer a reproduction at this point. For some reason or another, this painting has stuck with me and I think it's more than 35.It took years.
Does anyone know where I can get the replicas of these paintings?I would like to thank you for your time.
If you want the original to be sold to you, or if you just want a copy, I will post pics when I finish painting them. These shouldn't take me too long to finish because I paint for a profession.
Is it possible that GFA was produced during Season Ten?I remember seeing a portrait of Father Mulcahy in B.J. Potter's office. He said goodbye to him.
Season Eleven was filmed in October 1982.Some of the paintings can be seen in Potter's office during the episode. When I was working on this spotlight, I didn't see the paintings in any of the other episodes.
One of the paintings was posted by that guy Mike. That is hard to believe. He didn't bother to post a photo of it to prove it.I think he is full of it because nobody else has ever seen one out there.
I wish I knew the location of the painting of Colonel Potter's thumb, but I know it was done by Robert A. Woolfe.Bob was a veteran Hollywood studio artist and continued to paint until his death. He died on November 1, 2004.
I was a bit disappointed that Harry Morgan didn't paint them.I thought he was a painter in his own right.I am sure they are available on line.Everything else is.
In several episodes of "M*A*S*H", Col. Potter painted portraits of the other characters.Morgan painted these portraits. Is it imdb?
Is there a place to get good replicas of col. Potters paintings?Particularly Hawkeye or the thumb.
Harry Morgan gave me a painting that he had painted, and I have it.There was a scene along the lakeshore. The person who told me he was the painter was his daughter in law.Have you heard of him painting off of MASH?
Do you think the Potter thumb picture looks like a self portrait of Col Potter's penis when I watch episodes with it in?
I was looking for information on the Potter Paintings, and here it says nobody knows where they are.
I am from Holland and watch the series daily.I like it.I wondered if I would ever get the chance to own one of these paintings after watching the episode in which Potter paints a picture of the entire staff.Even if the paintings are lost, a re-enactment would be great.I am so sad.
The complete series is owned by the wife and I and we watch several episodes each night before we go to bed.I don't know how many times we've gone through, but we love them all.
We are not the only ones who do this.We both watch it every night. It's the best show ever.
I have the complete set of MASH and watch it everyday.Growing up, every arvo made sure I was home to watch.I went to a themed party dressed as Hawkeye and I'm pretty sure it had a huge impact on my life.I have been given many original photo prints with editors marks for use in promotional and press use.I believe one is signed by Alan Alda.A 1982 printed dish was given to Plus.I would be interested in any information that pops up about these paintings.I've been looking around for a while and can't find anything.
I've been watching mash since I was a kid and it was the first show I ever watched.I don't know how many times I've watched them, but I still get a good laugh when I watch them. Thanks to modern technology, I can watch the entire series whenever and wherever I want.I would love to find out about the paintings in the office. If anyone knows the location of any of these paintings, please let us know. The show will live on in infamy.
All the paintings that were used in the show are probably in a studio warehouse.I can confirm that my dad did it.Various studio artists are most likely to have done the rest.
Theodore Roosevelt was painted in by the U.S. President Potter.Potter said he put too much red in Roosevelt.
I have the original on-air Radar painting in front of me, what should I do with it?
Yes, please.I am more interested if they have one.To an avid fan anywhere in the world in which M*A*S*H has aired.
If you did, you would have to go to an art gallery and have someone look at it.I don't think it would bring a lot of money, but maybe a few thousand at an art auction.
One of the invisible people that big stars depend on was painted and my guess is that person was under appreciated.
I would love to find these paintings. They are pretty. While watching MASH, I like to look at the paintings more than I do the show. When they didn't show the other paintings, I was frustrated.I've been looking for the true artist for these paintings. It was sad that they didn't get the recognition they deserved. The paintings should be in a museum.I would love one but I don't think it will happen. They should have preserved the paintings a little better.
I am the biggest fan of the show of anyone who owns a painting.I would love to acquire one of them.Hope someone knows how much this means to me.Take care, thank you.Graham.
One of the rooms has a last rights kit.Bill Christopher was the one who authenticated it.There are other items as well.Frank.
Wow!That is a cool find! Are you going to meet Bill Christopher? Is he as nice in real life as he was on the show?He is my favorite actor. He died before I watched the show.
I'm watching the episode with Potter painting Radar and Klinger painting the diskis, but I don't know who did the paintings.
I own a painting. We can work out an arrangement if you contact me.
I'm interested if Graham didn't purchase.Next to Depressing News is my second favorite. You can reach me.
We can discuss the cost of the Charles picture and I would be interested in it.Thank you so much.
I heard that there was a fire on the set and most of the paintings were destroyed, but I am not sure if it is true.
The Eifel Tower is in the background of a painting by H Morgan. Is it possible that Harry Morgam could have painted it?
Harry Morgan did not paint any of the paintings. The prop artist was hired by the producers.
Did Harry Morgan paint J.J.'s paintings on "Good Times"?
We want to find the painting in the episode "Picture This" where the 6 of them are in one painting. Please message if you know anything.
The screen used cast painting from the film "This 20th-century Fox" was released in 1982.
The painting of Teddy Roosevelt was in a movie.Potter painted a horse with a live-in model as a hindquarters.
This is great.I stumbled in here.I didn't know there were still so many fans. This series was important to me as a child.I only have 5 seasons on DVD, but I watch them in a continuous loop when nothing else is on TV.As I type this, I'm watching "They Call the Wind Korea".
Mark, welcome!I am sure you will enjoy this site.I am eighteen years old and I live in Texas.Father Mulcahy is my favorite character on the show and William Christopher is one of my favorites."Nurse Doctor," "Movie Tonight," and "A War for all Seasons" are some of my favorite episodes.Just wanted to say hello.
It would be great to make prints for fans to own.The artist did not get credit.Enjoy the show as much as possible.
This is the site that I just found!Sitting and watching M.A.S.H.My normal Sunday routine includes a marathon.I would have liked to own the painting of the cast.It would have been a good price, considering the artist probably only got the scale back then. The last show I watched was in Chicago.I have never cut a business dinner short before, but I did that night.I got back to my hotel room in time for the opening credits. The show was coming on an hour earlier, Central Time, and I received messages from my mother, daughter, ex-husband and secretary. They knew I would be crushed if I missed it.
Excellent work.I would love to have the Hawkeye Get Your Gun or Depressing News paintings in my office.
Whoever has the paintings should donate them to the museum. They can get huge tax deductions.
There are a lot of people who claim to have paintings, but no one seems interested in providing proof, let alone posting a high-res picture to help other people out.You could ask for between ten and twenty dollars.I don't think an actual painting would fetch as much as people think.
There is a link to a high-res scans of the group painting. To download it, you have to register with the website. It is a free sign-up.They do ask a lot of address stuff.Just pretend it.
