Is Odysseus considered a hero?
Odysseus was considered a "war hero" because he fought for the Greeks in Troy.He didn't give the Gods credit for helping him because he became full of himself. He was punished for that.He learned that man is nothing without the Gods after enduring Poseidon's punishment.I think that he is a hero because he learned a valuable lesson in the end.
You would see that Odysseus was a great man if you had read the books. He was intelligent and the one who suggested to the Greeks the trick with the horse wasHelen of Sparti.
He was also a great warrior. The other kings gave Odysseus his armor and shield because he was a brave warrior.
In Odyssey, we read how clever this man was.He knows what his next step is and he has the courage to pass all the obstacles so that he can meet his wife and son again. He refused to become a god and live with the prettiest goddess because he wanted his wife to wait and see.In the begging of the poem, he acts arrogantly, but later he understands his mistake and becomes more careful towards gods.He is a gentleman when he meets Nafsica. When he returns to Ithaca, he kills the princes in his palace because they insulted him, his wife, son, house and even the gods with their actions.Who is a hero if Odysseus isn't one?No one can call a clever, loyal, sensitive, strong, wise, brave, handsome man a hero if he can't be.
Not a modern day hero.He was an absolute beast in the Odyssey. He was a bit nicer than many of the other Greek heroes. His courage, his care for his men and his love of his wife and son were some of the redeeming features that he had.Since he shagged both of them, you can't say he was faithful to Penelope. He killed without remorse or restraint. The Odyssey starts with him and his men plundering a city.
The ultimate Greek was Odysseus.A strong leader, a thinking man, and a family man.The fact that he is the sole survivor of his band takes a little from his glory, he lead some of them to their own fates by ignoring warnings from the gods.
1.He thought of the trick with the wooden horse from Troy.He was considered to be the smartest man in the world.
2.Even though the Gods wanted to punish him, he preferred the trip to a place instead of the destination.
I think he would have been a hero if he had stood up to the Gods and fought back, like Kratos did.
