I'm not sure about Xenoblade, but Xenogears and Xenosaga are actually based in the same universe. The events in Xenosaga lead up to the beginning of Xenogears. I highly recommend you play at least Xenogears, it is literally the most epic videogame I have ever had the pleasure of experiencing.
