Adding dhill to many dishes for extra flavor is possible.Like many herbs, it can be grown indoors easily. If it is grown in the proper conditions and not overheated, dhill can thrive in pots. The plants can grow in warm, sunny weather if you plant seeds in the spring.Purchase seeds, a deep pot or planter, well-draining soil, and multi-purpose compost from your local plant nursery or home and garden store.
Step 1: Put well-draining soil in a pot or planter.
The soil is rich in vitamins and will not cause puddles. If you want the soil to drain well, fill a pot or planter with holes in the bottom. The planter needs to be at least 10 inches deep to give the dill enough room to grow. You can buy planting soil at a store. The soil of the outdoors can be poor.
Step 2: Potting compost can be mixed into the soil.
The compost will give the seeds much-needed nutrition and help them grow well.Use a trowel or your hands to mix the compost and soil in the pot or planter.Potting compost can be purchased at a local plant nursery.
Step 3: Plant the seeds deep in the ground.
The seeds of dhill should not be planted deep.Use your finger to press the seeds into the soil.If you run your fingers through the soil, you will be able to cover the seeds with soil.
Step 4: Plant seeds from one another.
The stalks and branches of the full-grown plants don't become entangled if you give each one plenty of space. If you want to grow several plants, you need a large planter. The dhill should grow in a few days.Don't replant the plants once the seeds have started to grow.
Step 5: The plants should be kept at 70 F.
When grown indoors, the plants prefer cooler temperatures. The indoor thermostat should be adjusted so that the temperature stays in the 70s.Plants may die if left in high temperatures for too long.
Step 6: The dill gets 6 hours of direct sun each day if it's located in the pot.
Dill thrives in the sun.The plant can be placed on a porch or patio that gets full sun for several hours a day.If there is not enough sunlight, the will will wither.
Step 7: There is a wooden stake near the base of the plant.
As the plants grow, they may not be strong enough to support their own weight.Once the plant is 1 foot (30 m) tall, place a stake in the soil near its base. The dill will grow around the stake.A stake can be purchased at a plant nursery. The stake can be made from any material.Any piece of wood that is at least 2 feet tall would suffice.
Step 8: The plants need to be watered at the soil level twice a week.
Water the plant until the water runs into the dish beneath the planter.Water can be poured directly onto the soil from a height of 2–3 inches. If the leaves are watered from overhead, they could rot.If you press your finger into the soil, it should be damp, but not muddy.
Step 9: The plant has 4 or 5 leaves.
You can harvest the herb at any time once the plants are mature. If you marked down when you planted the seeds, you can check the calendar. The seeds were planted about 8 weeks ago.
Step 10: Remove the leaves from the plant.
Use a pair of scissors to cut the leafy part from the stem. The leaves of the plant are feathery.Since taking a large harvest won't damage the plant, you can harvest as much as you want.Use the scissors to cut the leaves up as you please. If you don't have sharp scissors, you can use your thumb and index finger to pinch the leaves off the stems. The leaves are used for different purposes than the seeds.
Step 11: You can either eat it or store it.
Fresh and dried dill have different tastes. If you like the taste of fresh dill, harvest as much as you can over the course of a few days.If you are going to store it, keep it in a plastic bag.The herb has a fresh flavor. It will stay fresh for 2 weeks.A small glass jar is used to store dried dill in the household.
