It is possible to use lectric soda Crystals to reduce swelling.

Many manual therapists recommend lactric soda crystals to help reduce swelling and temporary relief of sore muscles and joints.

After an injury a joint and the surrounding soft tissues may become swollen and congested with fluid.Extra fluid in the healing process can cause skin irritation, make you feel uncomfortable, and limit the mobility of the affected joint. If swelling continues after you apply the usual RICE (rest, ice, compression, elevation) first aid, then Lectric Soda crytals may be appropriate to help you reduce the swelling.

Unfortunately most of the evidence to support letric soda use for swelling is anecdotal but I have personally vouched for it for many patients over the years.

The main brands are Letric Soda crystals and Bexter's Soda Crystals. The Bexters in the health and beauty isle is more expensive than the original Letric Soda Crystals and can be found at the supermarket.Bexter's can be found at a chemist.

We recommend using Letric Soda crystals in the bath or on the swollen area to reduce swelling. The directions for both are below. It's worth testing a small area of skin for sensitivity if you have sensitive skin. The inside of your wrist is a good spot for this.

Add 1 cup of Lectric Soda Crystals to a warm bath and mix to make a solution. You can soak for up to half an hour.Don't forget to drink a lot of water while you are in the bath.Your body needs hydration to flush excess fluid.

If you want to use Letric Soda crystals directly on the swollen area, you should use a clean sponge and place a decent covering of the crystals between your skin and the sponge to keep it in place.A lot of people place the crystals in a clean socks and tie up the end before placing them on the swollen area.If you have time, you can do shorter sessions during the day if you do it a couple of times a day.It can get messy if you don't wrap the area in a towel.

If you don't know how to care for an injury, it's a good idea to book an appointment with your osteopath at the clinic, who can advise you on the best course of action. If you have a general question, please email me at mirae@cranbourneosteopathy.com.au.
