There is a disease caused by a virus in mosquitoes. In the Caribbean, Central America, and South Central Asia there are cases of the disease.Pain behind the eye, joint and muscle pain, and rash are some of the symptoms of dengue.Sometimes it is a mild illness, but sometimes it can be severe and even fatal if not treated.
Step 1: Know the symptoms of a disease.
If it is a mild case, there won't be any noticeable symptoms.Symptoms will start about four to 10 days after you have been bitten by a mosquito.Pain behind your eyes, headaches, muscle, bone, and joint pain are the most common symptoms of the disease.
Step 2: Understand how the disease is transmitted.
The Aedes mosquito is the main mosquito that carries the disease.A person is bitten by a mosquito that is carrying the disease. When a mosquito bites a person, it can transmit the disease to someone else.Anyone who may have been in contact with the patient's blood can be exposed to the virus.Extra care should be taken by pregnant women in areas where the mosquito-borne disease may be present.
Step 3: Take into account your risk factors.
You are at a higher risk of contracting the disease if you live in or travel to a tropical or subtropical region often. If you have been exposed to the disease before, you are more at risk of contracting it.If you have had a previous bout of the disease, you are at risk of developing more severe symptoms if you get it again. The South Pacific, the Caribbean, South and Central America, northeastern Australia, and Africa are all tropical countries. In Hawaii, the mosquito-borne disease has reappeared after 56 years.
Step 4: During mosquito times, stay indoors or under a mosquito net.
The peak periods for the mosquito to bite are in the morning and late afternoon. The mosquito can feed at any time during the day, even if it is overcast. It's a good idea to sleep under a mosquito net or in a screened or air conditioned building.Make sure the screens don't have holes.
Step 5: It's a good idea to use insect repellent outdoors.
It is important to protect yourself from mosquito bites when you are outside. Before you head outside, make sure to apply bug spray to all exposed areas of your skin.Adults and children over two months of age can use a repellant that contains 10% DEET.If you want to protect infants less than two months of age, use a carrier draped with mosquito nets with an elastic edge.
Step 6: Take care of your skin.
If you cover up as much as possible, you can reduce your chances of being bitten. When traveling to areas with mosquitoes, wear loose, long-sleeved shirts, socks, and pants. It's possible to spray your clothing with an EPA-registered pesticide for better protection.Don't use permethrin on your skin.
Step 7: There is standing water in your area.
The mosquitoes are in the water.Artificial water containers such as discarded tires, uncovered water storage barrels, buckets, flower vases or pots, cans, and cisterns are some of the mosquito breeding sites.Help to reduce the mosquito population in your area by getting rid of any standing water around your house or campsite.
Step 8: If you suspect you have the disease, you should see a doctor as soon as possible.
If you develop a fever after visiting a region where it is common, seek medical attention immediately to increase your chances of survival. If your symptoms get worse, you may need blood pressure monitoring, blood transfusions, and other interventions that must be administered by medical professionals.
Step 9: Know that there is no cure for the disease.
There is no cure for the disease. You will be able to contract one of the other strains if you survive the illness, but you won't be immune to the strain that you were exposed to.
Step 10: Stay hydrated.
It is important to drink plenty of water if you contract the disease because it can cause dehydration.IV fluids may be administered by your doctor to keep you hydrated.
Step 11: Reduce pain.
It is recommended that you use acetaminophen for pain associated with the disease.NSAID pain relief is more likely to increase bleeding than acetaminophen.Bleeding can occur if you have severe symptoms of the disease.
