On April 22 is Earth Day.It has grown into a global event.A special day to help the earth is a way to show how much we care about our planet. You can get involved in Earth Day regardless of what you like to do.Spending time in nature could help deepen your appreciation. You can plant a tree, make a meal with locally-grown vegetables, educate a family member, friend, neighbour, co-worker or member of your faith community, clean up trash in your neighbourhood, set up a bird feeders, reduce your use of electricity, and find other ways toThere are so many possibilities that they are endless. To help heal this planet that is our home, use Earth Day to appreciate what you and others are already doing and to explore what else you can do.
Step 1: You can learn about the environment.
It is a good time to learn more about the environment and how you can help to protect it.Pollution, water shortages, and climate change are some of the issues affecting the environment. You can learn about regions you've never considered before, like the deserts or the rain forests. Not sure where to start? You can get information about environmental issues in your own backyard from local news sources.Understand how climate change works and what you can do about it.You can look into urban environmental issues if you live in a city.If you live near a body of water, you should do research to find out if it's healthy or in need of help.It is affecting many communities in the United States. You can find out which species is in danger of extinction.
Step 2: There is an environmental group that you can join.
If you haven't done so already, join a local group that protects the environment in your area and think about the issues that concern you the most.Earth Day is a great day to get involved.Host clean-ups of local bodies of water and their shores Fight air and water pollution Plant trees and install community gardens Protect habitats under threat of getting developedStart your own.
Step 3: Share the word.
Everyone can share their environmental knowledge.A good way to celebrate Earth Day is to talk about the environment with people who don't think much about it.Discuss the issues you care about with your parents, friends, teachers, siblings, and anyone else you'd like.Give a speech at your local library on how to compost with worms, or take a group of children down to the recycling centre to show them how things are recycled.A group of friends should wear green and brown. You can talk about Earth Day when people ask you why you're dressed like a tree.
Step 4: There is an earth day fair.
An environmental fair may be held by your school, street, or neighborhood.Start one of your own if your community doesn't have one planned. The day is perfect for a celebration of the earth.Money raised can go towards a local environmental restoration project or to an environmental group agreed upon by all the participants running the fair.Children's earth-themed artwork, healthy/locally grown foods to eat, animal care demonstrations, and games for the children made of recycled products are all offered at Earth Day fairs.
Step 5: You can enjoy Earth Day entertainment.
There are a lot of Earth Day song lyrics on the internet.People can easily sing along if they follow well-known tunes.Younger children can become interested in environmental topics with these classroom activities.Try searching for words such as "planet", "Earth" or "endangered" when you want to download a song about the Earth.
Step 6: You can make a special Earth Day meal.
Plan a menu that uses locally produced foods, is healthy and has minimal impact on the environment if you invite friends and family over for a meal.Vegetables, fruit, and other produce use less resources to grow than meat.If you still want to eat meat, look for meat that is organically produced. If you can, try to have organic food.Instead of buying brand-new decorations, use recycled decorations made by you and your friends. The low-water dishwashing method is the best way to wash up after a meal. It's important to teach those who are helping how to use it.
Step 7: Every single day is Earth Day.
Every day is a perfect day to help the environment on Earth Day.Don't limit yourself to one day a year, learn how you can make a difference to the environment all the time.It will take a lot of work to heal our planet. The earth is important every day of the year and leading by example will help others remember.
Step 8: The trees should be planted.
Earth Day coincides with U.S. arbor day so planting trees is a popular activity.Trees help to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, clean pollution, secure soil in place to prevent erosion and provide homes for many birds, insects, and other animals. There is almost no other act you can do to celebrate Earth Day.Pick a tree that can survive in your climate. It's a good idea to find a native species in your area.If you don't know what it is, ask an employee at your local garden shop or the garden department of a big-box store.Make sure you plant the tree correctly to make sure it grows tall and strong.Water the tree well to give it a good start and choose the correct planting spot to meet its needs.
Step 9: You can plant flowers.
Plants that are native to your area can be planted in your garden or on nature strips.Restoring the local plant life will help attract birds and mammals. If you want to attract Monarch butterflies, plant milkweed, or goldenrod.Bee balm and lavender are good for attracting bees.Plants that attract hummingbirds are foxglove, petunias and lilies.
Step 10: Animals are welcome into your yard.
You can help the creatures of the earth in your own yard or neighborhood. In their quest for the perfect lawn, many people drive out the insects, rodents, birds, and reptiles that need a place to call home.On Earth Day, why not welcome the nonhuman neighbors into your yard? Here's how to do it.Leave a few sections unmowed instead of mowing the entire yard. This is an inviting place for bees, butterflies, and many other insects. The unmowed area in the back of the yard is where you should be worried about them coming inside. If you want to attract more wild animals, install a bird, bat, squirrel, hummingbird, or any other type of feeders.A birdbath or a small pond is a source of water.Don't try to get rid of the animals in your yard. Many of these animals are beneficial, they aerate your yard, eat mosquitoes, and improve the area.Let live.Tell your neighbors to do the same.
Step 11: Talk to your neighbors about the benefits of going organic.
Wild animals, native plants, trees, pets, and even humans can be harmed by pesticides and herbicides.Try organic methods of weed and pest removal instead of using chemicals on Earth Day.Make the whole neighborhood organic by talking to your neighbors. The old-fashioned way to get rid of pests is more effective than using pesticides. To control the insect population, try planting native plants.Water can be used to spray insects from your plants.Pulling weeds by hand works better than any other method.
Step 12: To protect local wild places.
Wild areas like the ocean, river, forest, mountain, swamp or lake need protection. Many plants and animals rely on them for food and shelter. On Earth Day, commit to protecting the wild places in your community by doing the following: Join a group working to protect these areas from pollution and developments.Encourage people to respect wild spaces by not damaging them.
Step 13: Keep your community litter-free.
Many groups use the weekend of Earth Day to clear litter that has accumulated since the last clean-up day. Many companies give gloves and bags to clean up groups.Get the village public works department to pick up the bags once the group has collected the trash. It's a great community project that you can do with a group.
Step 14: Local food can be eaten.
Eating food that was raised close to your home is important for a number of reasons. You don't need as much gas to get locally-grown food to your grocery store. It is more eco-friendly if it was grown close to your home.Local foods can be found at farmer's markets. Most of the foods at farmer's markets were grown within 50 miles. There is a section for locally-grown foods in some grocery stores.Look for foods that were produced within 50 miles of your town.Look for foods that were produced on small farms.
Step 15: A vegetable garden is a good place to plant vegetables.
You can't get much closer to home than your yard when it comes to eating local. You can grow a lot of vegetables in a small space. It's the perfect time of year to plant a garden.During the summer, try clearing a bit of grass and planting a few different varieties. One squash plant can produce enough to feed a small family for several weeks.Tomatoes are popular among beginners.Beans are easy to maintain.Herbs can be grown in pots.Don't have enough space for a garden?See if there is a community garden in your area.
Step 16: Consider a diet that is vegetarian or vegan.
Most meat is manufactured in an industrial setting where it is cruel to the animals and the environment is polluted.Eliminating meat from your diet is a great way to help the environment.April 22 is your first meatless day.A vegan diet is free of all animal products, including eggs, honey, and dairy products. For your health needs, choose the diet that works best for you.If you don't want to give up meat entirely, consider buying your meat products from local farms where you know how the animals were treated. There are farms that allow animals to roam and eat healthy food.
Step 17: Cook with fresh ingredients.
Preservatives and a lot of packaging are required for pre-made, processed foods. You can find a list of ingredients on frozen dinners, packaged snack foods, and other grocery store items.Extra sugars, chemical flavorings and other ingredients are not good for the environment or our bodies.Purchase foods in their natural form and cook them yourself.Check the ingredients even if the product is labeled "natural".You probably don't need to eat it if you see words that are gibberish.Do you not know how to cook from scratch?Omelets, casseroles, smoothies, and steamed vegetables are easy to make. You will be able to cook more and more dishes from scratch once you learn some basic techniques.
Step 18: Use less, reuse less and recycle more.
Don't buy items that come in a lot of packaging.Good habits can be carried through all year long on Earth Day.Supporting local growers and producers of food and products is one of the ways you can reduce, reuse and recycle. These can be used to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.Don't use disposable plates or utensils, take your drink container with you.You can find other uses for things you no longer use by recycling them. You can recycle your plastic bags by carrying a cloth bag.
Step 19: Make Earth-friendly cleaning products.
Try making your own counter cleaner, or swap out your bleach cleaner for a less-toxic orange-based one.Making your own cleaning products saves money.Industrial-strength chemicals can also be used in homemade cleaning products.A solution of half water and half vinegar can be used to clean your home.Baking soda and water can be used to make a paste to remove stains.Allow it to sit on the stain for a few minutes, then scrub it away with a toothbrush.
Step 20: Kids will love making crafts and toys.
Encourage kids to reuse old toys to make them fun and new.Tell the kids to come up with their own ideas for making something around the house into a toy.One way to encourage the local bird population is to build a birdhouse or make a birdfeeder.Use guitar strings to make a centerpiece. An orange juice carton can be used to make a basket. An old floppy disk can be turned into a spaceship. There is a skirt made of old umbrellas.
Step 21: Donate used items instead of throwing them away.
Donate household items or hold a garage sale.We take up a lot of natural resources that we don't really need.A lot of people don't have basic necessities.A lot of your stuff can be used by local charities to raise money.A clothing swap is an idea.It is possible to find new wardrobe finds for friends, relatives, co-workers, neighbors, and the like. You can combine with an Earth Day lunch or dinner. You can learn about product exchange communities.
Step 22: There is a compost bin.
Turn your food scraps into soil for your garden. The process is called composting.Banana skins, egg shells, carrot tops, and other items don't belong in the trash, where they will end up in a landfill. All of your food scraps should be collected in a closed bin.Add organic items to the mix.The mixture should be turned every few days. After several months of turning, the compost will break down into a rich brown soil.
Step 23: Consider purchasing a carbon offset.
The purpose of this is to make up for the greenhouse gas emissions that are created on other days of the year.Reducing greenhouse gas emissions through carbon offsets can be accomplished through projects such as wind farms.
Step 24: Go for a ride on your bike.
To commute to work or school, use your bicycle or other forms of human powered transportation. It's more eco-friendly than relying on cars to get you where you're going. If you can't ride your bike to school or work, look for public transportation. The environment is better if you drive a bus, train or shuttle.Carpool with a few friends who are going in the same direction.
Step 25: Water in your house is a must.
Do you use more water than you need? There are things you can do to make a difference in how much water you use.Saving water will lower your water bill. When not in use, turn the water off while brushing your teeth or washing your hands. The water should be turned off when you are brushing. When you are scrubbing your hands, turn off the water. From Earth Day on, take shorter showers. There is a greywater system in your home.Water can be recycled for the garden. You can wash your car with a bucket. You can wash the grass by driving the car onto it.
Step 26: If you can save electricity, that's a good thing.
One of the first things many of us are taught to do is turn off the lights when we leave the room. You can save electricity by using less air conditioning during the summer and less heat in the winter. All electronics and appliances should be turned off when not being used.Use energy-saving light bulbs or install skylights. You could make a mason jar as well. It's a good idea to switch to low-energy appliances.
