Keep your treadmill running.

It's a great way to exercise at home without going to the gym.treadmills are relatively easy to maintain. After each use, clean the surface, vacuum inside and around the machine about once per week, lubricate and maintain the treadmill's deck and belt as needed, and protect it with a mat and surge protectors.

Step 1: After every use, wipe down the treadmill.

Every time you use the treadmill, wipe down the surface areas with a cloth or wipe. While you may not be able to see it, your treadmill handles, belt, and screen can get covered with sweat, which can cause the machine's surface areas to corrode. The surface areas of the machine can be wiped down to kill germs. If you share your treadmill with others, this is important.

Step 2: When you vacuum, make sure to clean the area under the treadmill.

Dirt and dust accumulate on treadmills and cause them to wear down.If you want to keep the inside of your treadmill clear, you should vacuum under and around the treadmill at least once a week.If your treadmill is too heavy to lift up, use your vacuum's hose attachment to suck up as much dirt and dust as you can.

Step 3: Dust can be removed from the treadmill by vacuuming it monthly.

The treadmill needs to be unplugged from the wall.Use a screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the hood in place and follow the instructions in the owner's manual. The hose attachment on your vacuum can be used to remove dirt and dust from the motor. The deck of the treadmill needs to be vacuumed. The hood of the treadmill can be found under the machine's screen.Underneath the moving belt is the deck of the treadmill.Even if you clean the area around your treadmill, there will still be dust build up.Cleaning the motor will keep it running at its maximum efficiency, while cleaning the deck will help reduce friction that can break down the belt over time.

Step 4: The belt needs to be Lubricated every 150 miles.

The bolts in the back of the treadmill can be loosened with an Allen wrench. The belt will be loosened so you can lift it.Lift the belt and apply 1 ounce of silicone lubricant spray, liquid, or wax to the top of the running deck. This will keep the belt from rubbing against you. Some treadmills do not need to be sprayed or Waxed. Before applying a lubricant, make sure you check your owner's manual. Some brands require a specific type of spray or wax.To make sure you use the right type of lubricant, check your owner's manual. If you spray the lubricant on the belt, it can make it slippery.

Step 5: The belt must be tightened to maintain the tension.

It is possible that the belt on your treadmill needs to be tightened if it feels like it is wiggling around too much. Most machines have 2 bolts at the end of the deck that you can tighten with an Allen wrench. You don't have to tighten the belt after a certain amount of time.Do this whenever you feel like the belt is making it more difficult to use the machine.

Step 6: If the belt isn't straight down the deck, Align it.

Over time, the belt on your treadmill may slide off the center of the deck. The bolts on the back of the machine can be adjusted to realign the belt.If you need to align the belt in the center of the deck, use an Allen wrench to adjust the bolts clockwise or counter-clockwise.You need to check the owner's manual to see how to align the belt on your treadmill.Realigning the belt will make it easier to run, and it will keep one side of it from wearing down faster than the other.

Step 7: Keep the belt aligned by using the treadmill on a level surface.

Setting your treadmill up on an even surface is the easiest way to protect it.Keeping the belt and deck in good shape will be helped by this.If you want to make sure your treadmill is level, lay a level across the belt. You can adjust the treadmill's position if you know whether your floors are even or not.

Step 8: The treadmill should be plugged into an outlet with a surge protection.

If you leave your treadmill plugged in, you can help protect the electronics in the machine by plugging it into a surge-protected outlet. This will keep your treadmill's electronics safe.If you don't use your treadmill to protect the machine's computer, you can unplugged it.

Step 9: There is a treadmill mat that can be used to reduce vibrations.

A treadmill mat underneath the machine will help protect it from dust and dirt, as well as reduce the amount of vibrations that can cause the belt and deck to wear down faster. The machine will make less noise when you use a mat.The floor underneath your treadmill is protected by Treadmill mats.Online and at most fitness equipment stores, treadmill mats can be purchased for as little as fifteen dollars.

Step 10: If the treadmill's speed is erratic, watch the belt.

If the speed on your treadmill is erratic, try turning on the machine to run at a slow speed and observe the belt to see if it is hitching. The belt on your treadmill will wear down over time even if you maintain it.If you notice that the speed on your treadmill starts to vary without you changing the setting, then the belt needs to be replaced. You can purchase a new belt from the store where you bought your machine, or you can search online for the same make and model. The erratic speed may be caused by a problem with the motor if you don't see any belt issues. If this is the case, you will need a repair technician to determine if it can be fixed.

Step 11: If you smell a burning smell on your treadmill, you should unplug it.

If you start to experience a burning smell when you use your treadmill, immediately stop using it, turn it off, and remove it from the wall.Burning smells can be caused by dust in the motor, an object lodged under the belt, or a short circuit. If the smell is caused by dust, you can clean the motor. If the smell is caused by an object under the belt, you can remove it to get rid of it.If your treadmill is short circuiting, you need to get a professional to fix it.

Step 12: If the console display is not working, check the power cords.

There is usually a minor issue with the power cords or batteries if the console display is blank. If the power cords are old, damaged or crimped, it's time to replace them. The main power cord should be unplugged from the outlet for 1 minute to allow the circuit breaker to reset if the power cords are in good shape. If the display comes back, plug it back in.You can buy a replacement for the cords or wires at a hardware store or the treadmill supplier.
