If you use dye or bleach, it can dry out your hair. For centuries, honey has been used to restore hair's natural balance while also being a lightener.Learn how to lighten your hair with honey and use honey as a conditioner.
Step 1: The lightening mixture needs to be made.
Adding water to loosen honey will make it easier to apply to your hair.In a bowl, mix four parts honey and one part water or apple cider vinegar, which acts as a conditioner. You can add a few capfuls of hydrogen peroxide to the mixture if you want a more drastic change. It bleaches your hair several shades lighter. If your hair is dark or black, don't use peroxide.Adding cinnamon or ground coffee to the mixture will give it a reddish-blonde hue.Adding hibiscus petals will add a strawberry blonde hue.
Step 2: For about 60 minutes, let the mixture sit out.
Step 3: The honey mixture should be applied to your hair.
Use your fingers to massage the honey mixture on your head after you drape a towel over your shoulders to protect your clothes.Continue pouring honey on your hair and working it in until all of it is covered in honey.Since sticky honey can be hard to clean up, you might want to cover your bathroom floor with a towel or cloth.Don't wear clothes or use towels that will stain red if you add a reddening powder to the honey.
Step 4: Let the honey sit while you cover your hair.
You can cover your hair with a shower cap or sheets of plastic wrap.If you want to achieve a lighter look, let the honey sit in your hair for at least 2 hours.Put the plastic over your clipped up hair if you have long hair that is hard to keep up with.If you've added hydrogen peroxide to the honey mixture, don't use metal clips. It's not necessary to use a blow dryer to apply heat.At room temperature, the honey works well.
Step 5: It's a good idea to keep honey in your hair overnight.
If you leave it for that long, the honey will act as a deep conditioning treatment.Put a towel over your pillow and make sure you sleep wearing a shower cap.If you add hydrogen peroxide to the mixture, you should not keep the honey in overnight.
Step 6: Take the honey out of your hair.
It's time to wash and condition your hair. You can either blow out your hair or dry it with a towel.Your hair is going to be honey-colored.
Step 7: Add 1/2 cup conditioner and 1/3 cup honey.
If the conditioner's scent mixes well with honey, you can use it.Place the conditioner and honey in a bowl.An old conditioner bottle is a good place to store extra conditioner. To make a larger batches, use the same ratio of honey and conditioner.
Step 8: After every wash, use the conditioner.
Just like your normal conditioner, use the honey conditioner after you wash your hair. When you're done, spread a small amount through your hair and rinse it out.Leave the conditioner in your hair for a while. This method is great for hair that has been lightened.
Step 9: If your hair feels sticky, use less honey conditioner.
If your hair feels sticky after you wash it, increase the amount of conditioner and honey you use. Before exiting the shower, make sure to rinse thoroughly.
