Learning to communicate assertively can help you feel more confident and fulfilled.Affirmative communication works to give everyone a way to be heard and acknowledges that both you and others have needs.Don't judge or blame language, be open and honest.Sharing your feelings with someone who has hurt you is good.Use statements such as, "You were so unkind to me, you don't even care about my needs."If you use statements that focus on what you are feeling, you won't have to say anything.I was hurt when you didn't pick me up from work.I didn't feel like my needs were important to you.Don't tell others to do something.Explain why you are asking.People can share their needs and ideas with you.Use cooperative language, such as "What would you like to do?" or " What do you think?" instead of automatically feeling a need to assert your own point of view.Try to see from the other person's point of view.
