Living Like Weasels is a summary and analysis of Annie Dillard's living like usels.

Annie Dillard writes about her first encounter with a wild weasel in the essay "Living Like Weasels".Dillard gives a detailed explanation of what she thinks characterizes a weasel as wild.Dillard writes that the weasel "stalks rabbits, mice, muskrats, and birds, killing more bodies than he can eat warm and often dragging the carcasses home" in the first paragraph. The author describes the place where she met the weasel as a "remarkable piece of shallowness".Dillard identifies what she was doing in the moment leading up to the encounter with the weasel and then interprets it from her point of view.Dillard explores the theme of freedom by comparing the life of a wild weasel to that of humans. There are contrasting and opposing ideas in the whole essay. The author believes that humans can learn from the wild freedom of weasels.Dillard explains what humans need to learn from weasels. She says it would be proper and obedient to grasp your one necessity and not let it go.The author contrasts the concept of freedom of single necessity with the many choices humans have in life.

The reader can reflect on the concept of freedom of choice with Dillard's thesis.Humans have killed for the ability to choose and the author has turned it into something worth revising to its core.It is possible that being able to chose is not free. The idea of freedom is completely turned upside down by the author's strong argument.Dillard says to absorb from the wildness of the weasel the ability to tap into our deepest qualities and whatever makes us happy by holding on to our most single necessity and sticking to it.

The issue of having a calling was brought up in class. If humans have too many choices, and that makes it harder to follow their true calling, then we may never reach true freedom and happiness.

A couple days ago I watched a TED Talk and it inspired my perspective on having a calling. The title of the talk is "Why some of us don't have one true calling", and the key word in the title is one.

I am confused every time I think about my future and the pressure to choose one career or one passion, because I have always been interested in so many things.

We could engage in ways to provide better instruction on how to make choices that will bring happiness if we were to be thankful for our choices and just ditch them or choose only one aspect of life.

Dillard argues that we may feel like failures if we don't follow the "great big dream" or drop it when we realize we are more interested in something else. The complexity of human existence seems too vast to be summed up in a dichotomy or contrast of only two perspectives.
