The monkey fist is a knot that can be used as a weight at the end of a rope or a decorative knot.Practice and patience are needed to successfully tie the monkey knot.Stay patient, and go slowly.
Step 1: Hold the rope in a certain way.
The rope should be placed over the edge of your left hand. The front of your hand should have a short tail over it.Your hand should be behind the rest of the rope. The working end is the long portion of your rope. You will use this portion to create the knot.
Step 2: Wrap the rope in different directions.
Wrap the long tail around your fingers three times.Wrap your fingers closest to your palm. The wrap should be close to the tips of your fingers.Wrap the paracord around your first two fingers to make it easier.
Step 3: Take the rope off of your hand.
You should maintain the orientation. The loops hold if this same hand is positioned.Remove the rope from the hand and keep the first set of turns in place. You can keep the first three turns intact by pinching the rope together. If you want to thread the next horizontal loops through your finger, you can keep the rope on your hand.
Step 4: Wrap the rope around your body.
Wrap the long tail around the three loops created. This is done three times. The horizontal strand should be above the last.Three turns of rope should be looped vertically and cinched by three horizontal wraps. These wraps need to be loose. If you want to finish the horizontal turns, you can create a loop with the rest of the rope. You are taking your final turn here and passing through the middle.
Step 5: Make more turns.
Wrap the long tail around the three newest strands. The rope can be passed through the opening.Between your first three loops, go over the horizontal wraps.Continue with this motion three more times. The rope should go through the top and the bottom. There is a shape coming into place.
Step 6: A marble should be inserted.
Add a small marble to the center of your monkey knot.If you want a sturdy monkey knot, this is the optional step.Any small spherical object will work.It is easy to work with marble.
Step 7: The Monkey has a fist.
Take a few minutes to tighten your knot. The first loop you cast will end with the last. You have to tighten the loops in order to cinch the slack. The first set of vertical loops are followed by the horizontal loops.
Step 8: The monkey fist is created.
You need to build a standard monkey's fist with three strands. The hangman's noose can be created with enough slack on the tail.Make sure you have a key chain as well.
Step 9: To make a hangman's noose, use the other side of the paracord.
With the rest of the slack, create an even "S" shape. You would make a monkey's fist by wrapping it around the rope three times.
Step 10: The hole in the noose is where the monkey fist should be placed.
Wrap the strand three times and move towards the hole.Wrap the wraps in glue to hold them in place.Cut off the rope.
Step 11: Your paracord has a keychain.
You can make a hole from the bottom of the monkey fist by taking a keyring and weaving it around it.You can either pass it on to a friend or attach it to your keys.
Step 12: Put the rope in a position.
The rope should be placed over the edge of your left hand. The front of your hand should have a short tail over it.Your hand should be behind the rest of the rope.Give yourself enough length of paracord to keep it out of your fist.Pull the short end down so you can see it.
Step 13: Wrap the rope vertically five times.
Wrap the long tail around your fingers five times. The wrap should be close to the tips of your fingers. After wrapping the paracord around the back of your fist, you will loop your finger around it.
Step 14: You can remove the rope from your hand.
You should maintain the orientation. The loops hold if this same hand is positioned. You can keep the paracord on your fingers if you find it easier. You can loop the horizontal turns between your fingers.
Step 15: The rope should be wrapped horizontally five times.
Wrap the long tail around the five loops created. This is done five times. The horizontal strand should be above the last.Five strands of rope should be cinched by five horizontal wraps.Wrap the last loop around the strand to finish the fist.
Step 16: Change directions to a different direction.
Again grab the long tail and tuck it above the five newest horizontal strands facing you.Continue with this motion five more times.Out the bottom and through the top.You want to wrap your paracord in between your horizontal and vertical loops.Wrap the last loop around the original strand of the monkey's fist. There is a large marble.Adding a marble to the center of your monkey's fist will make it heavier. The bulk of the fist needs something in the core for the five strand monkey knots.
Step 17: Take a deep breathe.
Take a few minutes to tighten your knot. The first loop you cast will end with the last.Slowly, you have to tighten each part of the paracord.
