Jesus is the King of kings, incense is what you expect to be given a priest, and myrrh is used to heal, all of which are good gifts.Jesus was born to die and myrrh is used to embalm corpses.
The wise men had a dream and warned them not to go back to Herod.The men listened to the dream.They went back to their homes in the East by a different route.
The Messenger of the Lord told Joseph to get up, take the child and his mother, and head to Egypt.Stay there until I tell you it's safe to leave.Herod understands that Jesus is threatening him.He is going to kill the child.You will be safe in Egypt.
Joseph bundled up Mary and Jesus and they left for Egypt.[b]
Herod realized he had been tricked after a few months.The wise men weren't coming back.Herod was angry.He ordered the killing of all boys who lived in or near Bethlehem who were less than two years old.The wise men told him that the baby King was this age.
Herod knows babies will die in this purge, but he doesn't care, he's willing to do anything to kill the King.The other baby boys died.Herod's plan fails.He doesn't know that the baby Savior is in Egypt.
The voice will be heard all day and night, weeping and wailing for her children who have been killed, and she will not be comforted.[c]
