Underarm hair can quickly get hot and itchy.More and more men are shaving their armpits because they are a lot more comfortable as a result. If it is your first time grooming your underarms, there are a few basic guidelines you should keep in mind to make sure you get close, smooth shave, use a sharp razor, lather on plenty of shaving cream and get down to business during a hot shower.
Step 1: Take care of your hair on your body.
If you are shaving your armpits for the first time, it is helpful to clear out as much bushy growth as you can.You can clip the hair down to about a quarter inch with an electric beard trimmer. The stubble will be easier to remove after that. The length guard should be above the shortest setting. The blades won't be able to pull the hair as you go over it.If you don't own a beard trimmer, you can use a pair of sharp grooming scissors.
Step 2: Take a shower.
Climb into a hot shower and scrub up after trimming. The heat of the water will make it easier for the razor to get through the hair.If you want to get the job done while you shower, start shaving as soon as you get out of the shower. If you can't take a shower, put some warm water on your armpits. It's important to massage your skin to open it up.
Step 3: Don't use a dull razor.
Not even an old razor can tackle your underarms. You will want to make sure that you are using a new razor or blade. The whole process will be more efficient if the edge is sharp. There are blades that can tug the hair and cause irritation.Look for razors with more than one blade.Since they remove more hair per stroke, they tend to provide a closer shave.
Step 4: A liberal amount of shaving cream should be applied.
Put a few shaving cream or gel on your body. The more you use, the better a shave you will get.The shaving creams and gels help the razor glide more easily and protect your skin.Once you start, feel free to apply the gel as needed.
Step 5: You should raise your arm over your head.
You can get a clear path to the hair.It is possible to pull the skin taut so that there are nowrinkles or folds to get in the way.The goal is to make the shaving surface as flat as possible. If you can't get a good view of your armpits, try shaving with a mirror.Keep your fingers away from the razor.
Step 6: Don't shave the hair in one direction.
Start at the top with the head of the razor. From the bottom up to the side.Try to take off as much hair as you can with each pass, using long, smooth, straight strokes.Take some time to avoid accidents.Armpit hair tends to grow in multiple directions, which means it won't always have a normal "grain" like other body hair.
Step 7: It's a good idea to rinse out your razor blade.
After every few strokes, hold the head of the razor under the faucet or shower stream to flush out the clumps of hair it has collected.Keeping your blades clear will make it easier to cut the hair.Try not to touch the razor against a hard surface. The blades can be damaged over time.It is possible to clear the blades with a small brush or corner of a cloth.
Step 8: Continue with the other side of the body.
Move on to the other side when you are done shaving.Don't forget to rinse your razor every so often.Don't shave until there is no visible hair.
Step 9: It is a good idea to rinse with cold water.
When you are done with your shave, run or splash some water over your body. While soothing your skin and closing up your pores at the same time, this will wash away loose hairs. To dry them, pat them gently with a towel. If you are shaving in the shower, turn the water temperature down for a few moments while you rinse off.The combination of hot water and razor rash can cause inflammation.
Step 10: It's a good idea to follow up with a moisturizers.
To apply a dime-sized portion of lotion to your freshly shaved armpits, rub it in completely.Immediate relief from irritation is provided by the right post-shave balm.It will keep your underarms soft, smooth and smelling pleasant for a while. It is recommended to use a moisturizer that is specifically formulated for sensitive shave areas.A splash of antiseptic can prevent the growth ofbacteria. It can make irritation worse if you put it on right away.
