Only one payment type is accepted. The full value of your ticket purchase must be available on your transit benefit card.If you want to purchase tickets that exceed the pre-tax benefit amount, you should contact your provider.
The most expensive option is on-board the train.Only One-Way tickets may be purchased on-board trains, and they cost more than tickets bought before boarding at Ticket Offices/Machines or via MTA eTix.There were no bills over $50.When presented on Peak trains, off-peak tickets will be "stepped up" to the Peak fare.Extra fare charged for traveling beyond the stations listed on the ticket will be rounded up to the next dollar.Round-Trip tickets are not sold on-board.Before boarding, please purchase your return trip tickets at ticket windows or MTA eTix.Before boarding the train, MTA eTix customers should activation their ticket.
Ask your Human Resources Department if your company has a tax-free transit benefit program. If you set a portion of your salary aside for commutation costs, you can save up to 40% each year.
Please be aware that transit benefit providers are independent of the LIRR and have their own rules, regulations, and terms and conditions with respect to the disbursement of remaining funds. If tickets are returned to the LIRR for a refund, the transit benefit card used to make the purchase will have to be used again. There are no exceptions to the LIRR's policy of not issuing a check or applying the refund amount to another card.
