The legendary Chinese warrior, Mulan, is famous.When most people think of Mulan, they imagine a version that appears in the Disney movie of the same name.Mulan has two versions of herself, one of which is a woman and the other a man.Her male and female hair styles are easy to do.
Step 1: Straight, brushed hair is what you should start with.
For this style to work, your hair should come past your shoulders.If it isn't this long, use a wig.If you have wavy hair, blow dry it straight.If you have curly hair, you need to use a flat iron.If you are using a wig, place the wing on the wig stand and pin it to a Styrofoam wig head.
Step 2: Cut off your hair in front of your ears.
First, cut your hair in the center.Next, use the handle of a rat-tail comb to create a vertical part on your head.You should be able to see the part from your hair line.You should drape the hair over your shoulders.Tie it under your chin if it's too short.
Step 3: Your hair should be in a high ponytail.
The ponytail needs to be secured with a black hair tie.If you want a more accurate style, keep the bottom part of the ponytail loose.If you use your natural hair color for this, use a hair tie that matches the color of your hair.
Step 4: Place the ponytail in a bun.
First, twist the ponytail into a rope.Tuck the ends underneath and secure them with black pins.If you use natural hair color, use bobby pins to match it.If you have short hair, try a sock bun.A faux bun can be purchased at local beauty supply stores.
Step 5: Take the hair from one side to the other.
First, make a deep side part.If you want to tease the hair, use a comb.Return the part to normal, then repeat the process for the other side.After teasing the other side, make sure you return the part to normal.There are wigs at the front.You can skip this step if your wig is like this.
Step 6: Pull the hair away from the bun.
Pull the left side of the hair back towards the bun.It should drape over the top of your ear.To secure the bun with bobby pins, drape the hair over it.For the other side, repeat this step.If you have long hair, you may have to wrap it around the bun and pin it.Leave a few strands on your forehead.If you are using a wig, you can shorten the strands.
Step 7: It's a good idea to set the style with plicol.
The basic style is complete, but you need to add some accessories to make it look like Mulan's.
Step 8: The bun has a red ribbon around it.
Pick a shade of red that matches your costume.It could be a bright red, a pinkish red or even a shade of burgundy.Tuck the ends of the ribbon under the bun.Wrap the ribbon around the bun.Don't put it in a bow.You can choose a ribbon that is 1/3 to 1 inch wide.
Step 9: A flower is placed on the side of the bun.
A fake flower can be used.You can use a flower with pointed leaves.You can make your own comb to look like the one in the movie.The flower shouldn't be larger than your finger.It will look tacky if it's too large.Don't use roses, daisies, or other types of flowers.They won't give you the right look.
Step 10: Straight, shoulder-length hair is a good start.
Mulan cuts her hair when she takes her father's place in the war.This style requires long hair in order to work.If it is, you could always use a wig with a widow's peak.If your hair is wavy, use a hair straightener.If you're going to use a wig, make sure you put it on the wig stand and pin it to a Styrofoam wig head.
Step 11: Your hair needs to be done into a high ponytail.
You should put a black hair tie around your wrist first.A high ponytail sits on the back of your crown.There is a hair tie on your hair.If you use your natural hair color for this, use a hair tie that matches your hair.
Step 12: Pull your hair into a bun by tying the hair tie around it.
Wrap the hair tie around your head.Pull your ponytail halfway through the hair tie so that it forms a bun.The ends of your hair should be facing down.
Step 13: Set the style with a spray.
There are a few things you need to do before you can leave.
Step 14: Wrap a green cloth around your hair.
You can use green bias tape.In most cases, the green will be a grayish green, so try to match it to your cosplay as best you can.Under the ponytail, tie the ends.The ends of the tie should not be touched.Ribbon is shiny and not the best choice.If you have to use ribbon, use grosgrain.
Step 15: If you would like, add a widow's peak.
Mulan has a peak in her hair.If you don't have a natural widow's peak, you can draw one in using an eyeliner or eyebrow pencil that matches your hair color.Set it with lots of powder so that it doesn't rub off.Temporary hair spray can be used to draw in a widow's peak.If you use a lace front wig, you'll need to add hair into the lace to give it a peak.
Step 16: Get a big hair comb.
The comb has to be at least 4 to 5 inches long.It should be shaped like a circle.You can find them in beauty supply shops.
Step 17: The comb's handle should be painted with turquoise.
You can use paint with a pearly finish if you want to get fancy.The teeth should be painted dark green for an even more accurate comb.The teeth won't be visible in the end.Let the paint dry.It's a good idea to paint both sides of the comb even though you'll only be decorating one side.
Step 18: There is a gold design on the top of the comb.
The top edge of Mulan's comb has lily petals.You can use gold nail polish, gold glitter glue, or gold puffy paint to draw these on the comb.Before moving on, let the paint dry completely.It takes hours to dry paint and glitter glue.Be patient!
Step 19: A white flower with pointed petals is a good choice.
A little smaller fake flower would be even better.It should have pointed petals.The stamen/center should be painted red.
Step 20: Glue the flower to the comb.
First remove the flower from the stem.Put hot glue into the center of the comb's handle by drawing a swirl on the back.You won't be able to use the comb if you get glue in the teeth.
