My iPhone is locked in vertical mode.

I have a brand new phone.I can't take a picture with my phone because it's not horizontal.I understand that this is a setting lock, but how do I fix it?I never resolved the issue with my 4s model. Can this be fixed?
There is an operating system for the iPhone, iOS 8.1.

It sounds like your phone doesn't go into portrait mode.It seems to me that rotation lock might be enabled or something else is preventing this action. The following article can be used to determine what the issue is.
Some apps are not rotating.Depending on the content, some might only use portrait or landscape mode. The calculator app on your device can be used to test screen rotation.Try these steps if the screen doesn't rotation.
If you checked your settings, you should be able to use the calculator app on your screen.

You don't need to restart or restore your device, just slide your screen to where the flash light is, and you will see its icon turn on and off.
