Pani popo are made from coconut.Pani and popo mean coconut. The buns are made with bread dough. The coconut sauce is poured over the dough before the dish is baked.
Step 1: The yeast should be combined with the warm water.
The yeast should be put over the warm water in the bowl.If you want the mixture to be frothy, let it sit for 5 to 10 minutes. The water should be between 105 and 115 degrees.Combine the two ingredients in the bowl of the mixer if you are going to use a standing mixer.
Step 2: The coconut milk, butter, sugar, and salt should be mixed together.
In a medium microwave-safe bowl, combine the four ingredients with a whisk. Before adding butter, break it into chunks. The butter will melt quicker if you do that.
Step 3: The coconut milk can be microwaved.
Place the coconut milk mixture in the microwave for a short time.Remove the mixture from the microwave. When you remove the dish from the microwave, adequate stirring should be enough to melt the ingredients down.
Step 4: There is an egg and powdered milk.
Add the two ingredients to the coconut milk mixture.Allow the mixture to cool a bit before adding the egg.If you add the egg while it's steaming hot, it could cause a problem. If you want to temper the egg, you can beat it in a separate dish and add a small amount of the hot coconut mixture.Slowly bringing the temperature of the egg up, Stir the two together until evenly combined.Add this egg to the rest of the mixture.
Step 5: The mixture should be mixed with the yeast.
The coconut milk mixture should be dumped into the bowl. For 2 minutes, mix with an electric mixer. You can use either a stand mixer or electric hand mixer. The bowl should be smooth and evenly combined when done.
Step 6: Add the flour.
The flour should be put into the liquid ingredients.Continue mixing the dough on medium speed until all of the ingredients are in a dough. The dough needs to be sticky. You may need to add another cup of flour if the dough doesn't hold together.
Step 7: The dough should be kneaded on a surface.
Take the dough out of the bowl and put it on the counter or table. The dough should be kneaded for 8 to 12 minutes. If you complete this step, you'll have airy bread.Skip or shorten the knead time if you prefer dense bread. You can add a small amount of flour to the dough, but make sure you don't add too much. The dough needs to remain sticky and soft. The rolls will become harder if the dough becomes tough.
Step 8: Let the dough rise.
The dough should be placed in a bowl. When it's doubled in size, cover it with a clean dish towel and let it rise in a warm spot for 1 to 2 hours.Place the dough inside the bowl by spraying it with cooking spray. It's a good idea to turn the dough once so that all sides are covered in the cooking spray after placing it inside. The surface of the dough is less sticky. It is best to let the dough rise in a place that is warm and draft-free.
Step 9: Take the dough and punch it down.
After the dough has doubled in size, punch it back down with your fist.If the dough clings to your hand, you can use a spray on your skin or dust your hands with flour.
Step 10: The pieces should be divided into pieces.
The dough should be broken into evenly sized pieces. These pieces should be rolled into balls. To form dough balls, pinch the dough off in chunks and roll them into shape.Roll the entire portion of dough into a cylinder.Use a knife to slice that cylinder.
Step 11: Place the dough balls in the pan.
The dough balls should be placed in the baking pan.Place the dough balls inside the pan by spraying it with cooking spray.
Step 12: Let it go.
Place the unbaked rolls in a warm location by covering them with a dish towel. If they have doubled in size, let them rise for 30 minutes. You can place the dough in the refrigerator for 12 to 24 hours to allow it to rise slowly. As the dough balls rise, prepare the coconut sauce.
Step 13: Place the coconut milk in a container.
Give the can or container a stir before you measure coconut milk.Coconut milk has a tendency to clot.Shake the can to smooth it out when you are working with it.Stir the contents to combine them again when working with an opened can.
Step 14: The coconut milk should be combined with some of the other ingredients.
The coconut milk, water, and sugar should be in a medium bowl. When smooth and evenly combined, whisk together. If you taste it now, it may seem too sweet.Much of the sauce will be absorbed by the buns as it bakes, making it less sweet.Wait for the dough to finish rising and cover the coconut sauce with it.
Step 15: The temperature in the oven should be 350 degrees.
You should preheat the oven before the dough is fully risen.
Step 16: The coconut sauce should be over the dough.
Make sure that the rolls are thoroughly drenched by pouring the coconut sauce over them. The top and sides of the dough should be covered with sauce. The sauce will sink to the bottom of the pan.If you prefer crispier buns and less sauce, you can brush a little of the sauce on the tops and sides of each roll with a pastry brush instead of pouring the entire amount on top. There should be very little sauce in the bottom of the pan when you use this option.
Step 17: Sprinkle with some sugar.
If you want, sprinkle a little sugar over the buns. The first time you prepare the pani popo you should skip this step since the sauce is so sweet. You can add this final dusting of sugar if the sauce doesn't overwhelm you when you taste it.
Step 18: 20 to 30 minutes to bake.
Place the rolls in the oven and cook them until they are golden brown. The internal temperature of the buns should be 190 degrees.
Step 19: You should serve it fresh.
Enjoy the finished buns while they are still warm and fresh.Wait for 30 minutes before serving the buns. The bread can set and the sauce can be made.If you want to serve the buns upside-down, you can either serve them straight from the pan or use a spoon.
Step 20: Prepare a dish.
A baking dish should be coated with cooking spray.A baking dish of the same size would work.
Step 21: The dough balls should be sprayed with cooking spray.
Use cooking spray to cover your hands.Roll the dough gently with your hands, then use the cooking spray to coat the surface. If you want, you can use shortening or cooking oil.A light coating of oil is required for each dough ball.
Step 22: For two hours, let rise.
Place the balls of dough in the baking dish. When the dough is doubled in size, set the dish aside.Dust and debris can be prevented by covering the dough with a dish towel. If you want the best results, place the dough in a warm spot as it rises.
Step 23: The temperature in the oven should be 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius).
Depending on how long it takes your oven to preheat, you may want to do this before the rolls have finished rising.
Step 24: The remaining ingredients should be mixed together.
The coconut milk, sweetened Condensed Milk, and white sugar should be put in a small mixing bowl.A smooth, even sauce can be created by whisking the ingredients together. The sauce will be very sweet. If you prefer a milder sauce, reduce the amount of sugar to 2 or 3 Tbsp.
Step 25: The coconut milk will be poured over the rolls.
The coconut sauce should be poured over the top and sides of the dough after the rolls have risen. The sauce should cling to the surface of the rolls, but most of it will sink into the pan.
Step 26: For 30 minutes, bake it.
If you want the rolls to turn golden brown, place them in the oven for 25 to 30 minutes.
Step 27: Enjoy.
The pani popo needs to be removed from the oven.Enjoy the rolls while they are still warm and fresh.Scoop the individual out of the pan and onto the plates. Before enjoying, spoon any extra sauce from the bottom of the pan over the top of each roll.Alternatively, serve the rolls upside-down on the platter.
