Photo Emulsion can be used for Silk Screen Printing.
It is possible to mass-produce using a printing technique that uses a photo emulsion. It's possible to make a permanent stencil of your design with the help of Emulsion. The general idea is that you make your design image on tracing paper or clear acetate and draw it with an opaque substance, such as India ink or a Sharpie paint marker, to be able to mass-produce or create multiples. The drawing will be blacked out by the marker. The drawing is a template for the final screen. The screen needs to be dry in the dark. When you expose the drawing to strong light, the dried screen will block the light from hitting it, but the drawn areas will allow it to hit.You can wash these areas out with water after a 7-minute exposure.
Step 1: There is a location with running water, electrical and a dark closet.
Things will flow well if everything is set up correctly. There is an easy bathroom access in a garage or small room with blinds.Setting up a dark room in a closet is necessary. There needs to be electricity for the light table and fan in the dark room.
Step 2: All materials should be obtained.
There are things you'll need. The materials can be purchased at any craft store.
Step 3: Set up a cloth.
Set up a workspace on the ground against a wall using a drop cloth or newspaper. The top side of the screen needs to be facing out. There is a flat side to the screen.
Step 4: A dark room and exposure closet is needed.
It doesn't have to be done in complete darkness to coat the screen with the chemical.A dark room can be created by shutting off lights and blinds.Drop cloth or old newspaper can be used to create a resting spot for the screen.Don't turn on the fan until you put it inside the closet.Use old fabric or blankets, dark in color, or black garbage bags and tape to the walls to resist as much light as possible. While setting up the lights need to be off for the next step.
Step 5: Measure and mix.
The blinds should be closed and the lights off.Put rubber gloves on and use a spatula to stir the chemical in the container.Pour 12 cup of chemical into the trough. The chemical is stretching the entire width of the trough.
Step 6: The screen should be coated using the trough.
The screen should be propped up against the wall with one hand holding it and the other holding the trough.Use the rounded edge of the trough to apply even pressure to the screen. The screen should be covered.Use the trough the same way as before, but use the sharp edge to remove any excess.
Step 7: If there are holes or missing spots, hold the screen up to the closed blinds.
You can use a small paintbrush.
Step 8: Set up a screen in the closet.
The screen should be propped against the wall when it is fully covered and the excess emulsion has been removed. It will help to turn the fan on.Wait one hour before checking the screen to take note of the time.
Step 9: It's time to clean up.
If necessary, empty the trough back into the container. The trough, spatula, and measuring cup should be washed.Drop cloth or throw away old newspaper.
Step 10: The light table needs to be prepared.
Plug it in when you're ready, if a light table has been purchased. If constructing one yourself, keep in mind the light needs to evenly be dispersed so plan the lighting according to screen size. The lights should be placed underneath the table to make sure no area is more bright than another. As long as the exposure closet is sealed, playing around with the lighting is fine.
Step 11: Prepare image for table.
Draw or trace an image with a black marker or paint pen.The light table can be used to make sure the black areas don't pass light.Attach the image to the table with tape.
Step 12: For 7 minutes, expose the screen on the light table.
The screen can be exposed after being in the closet for an hour. When you expose the drawing to strong light, the dried screen will block the light from hitting it, but the drawn areas will allow it to hit the screen. You can place the screen over the image. The inside of the screen should be weighed evenly and firmly.Expose 7 minutes when the light is turned on.
Step 13: The screen needs to be washed out.
Light should be turned off and washed out.The first few moments are crucial. The screen needs to be washed out before it becomes permanent. When you can see through your image on the screen, it is washed out and exposed.
Step 14: It was dry and clean.
Place the screen in front of the fan if you want to dry it out quickly. To avoid a mess, clean the remaining materials.
Step 15: It's Print!
