There are plenty of ways to play with African dwarf Frogs, and they shouldn't be handled outside of their habitat. You can use regular food and treats to get them to move around the tank. The African dwarf frog's life in the aquarium is less dull if you play with them.
Step 1: Food can be placed at the tip of the turkey baster.
Use your frog's regular food, such as bloodworm or brine shrimp, and place a small amount at the end of the turkey baster.Attach the food to the tip underwater by sucking it into the baster. If you want, you can use treats instead of regular food, but be careful not to use too much or your frog won't like it.A nice treat is beef heart or krill.
Step 2: The tip of the baster should be above the frog's head.
Remove the tank cover, but don't take your frog out of the aquarium, as it needs to be fully submerged in water.Just above the frog's head, place the tip of the baster in the water. The scent of the food can be spread more effectively if you sway the baster back and forth in the water.
Step 3: Wait for your frog to notice the food and then watch it eat it.
If your frog doesn't realize there is food above it soon, then keep trying and be patient. If it can't reach the food by stretching, it should jump up in the water and try to get a snack from the tip of the baster. It might be too high for your frog to jump up if it still doesn't want to.When your frog is able to reach it, lower the tip of the baster.
Step 4: Every day raise the baster slightly higher.
If you want your frog to jump higher and higher, you can raise the tip of the baster a bit higher than it was the previous day.It won't be interested in jumping for no treats if you keep offering your frog food.Keep the baster in the water, no matter how high it wants to jump after several days, or it could jump out on accident while trying to reach the food outside of water.
Step 5: You should wash your hands with soap and water.
Frogs' skin is very absorbent compared to other animals.Make sure to rinse your hands with water after you wash them. The oils from your skin as well as all forms of soap can cause damage to the frog if you handle them with your bare hands.
Step 6: Put some of your frog's food on your finger.
If you have enough food, the frog will be able to see it on your finger. If you want to balance bloodworm or shrimp on your finger, you can use fish pellets. You won't have anything to entice your frog with if you dip your finger in the water.
Step 7: Use slow patterns to trace your finger outside of their enclosure.
If you want to trace a random pattern in the air, don't touch the tank or the food.African dwarf Frogs have bad eyesight, so keep your finger close to the glass.Live food may be more effective than dead food, in which case you should use tweezers to hold a fly or other live bug in place while you trace it in the air.
Step 8: After a few minutes, let the frog have the food.
Drop the live food into the enclosure after a few minutes of playing with the frog. You may find that your frog follows your finger after a few times.Every time it follows your finger, give your frog treats. It will keep playing with you and associate your movements with treats.
Step 9: Tie a thin string around a piece of food.
Attach a piece of bloodworm to a string.Fishing wire, a colored fabric string, or something else firm and thin will wrap around a small piece of food. You can tie a string with a frozen bloodworm.Live food can be used, but it will be harder to wrap around the string.Live food can be found on the end of a fishing hook.Fishing hooks are for catching fish, not playing with your pets, and when the frog goes to eat the food, it will hook itself.
Step 10: Wait until they notice the string in the water of your frog's aquarium.
Take the string halfway into the aquarium and let it float near your frog.It should be able to notice the food in a few seconds.Fishing wire or a strong thin string can be used multiple times in a single play session as it won't degrade in the water.
Step 11: To get your frog to chase it, move the string around in the water.
To get your frog to chase the string, move it to another corner of the cage.Lift the string out of the water to remove the food if the frog gets tired. It's important to remove the food from the string so that the frog doesn't eat it.Pull the string out from the frog's mouth if he catches it.If you have to pull the frog out of the water, you should rinse your hands and let go.
Step 12: Allow them to eat the food and then try it again without any treats.
Drop the food back into the water so your frog can eat it.If you want to play with them again, you can dangle the string in the water and see if they react.
