There are a couple of things you need to make yourself more safe and legal.I'm getting ahead of myself.These should be put into sections.

These are already in your vehicle.They have to be up to date with regulations.You may have to buy more powerful lights in place of the ones you have.In front of you, your headlights must be able to illuminate 500 feet.You need good headlights because of the speed.

You need to be 500 feet away from the taillights to see them.This is important.Get some powerful ones.You can buy DOT approved lights to make it easier for you.

The brake lights on your vehicle must be bright.Turn signals are required.All of these things need to be in good shape.If you don't have enough safety lights, police will pull you over.

I think this is the one that I forget about the most.According to the NHTSA, you need to have side-view mirrors on your vehicle to make it street legal.You need either a side-view mirror on the passenger's side or a rearview mirror for your driver.Just get both.It makes you less prone to accidents.Depending on your state, these rules can vary.For most of the time, you should have all three mirrors.

DOT requires a windshield for it to be legal, but so does NHTSA.The rules were set up by the American National Standard Institute.Three different organizations require it.It needs to be a full sight.I am aware that many people get half windshields before they decide to make it street legal.

The tires on a UTV may not meet DOT standards.You can buy DOT approved street tires online.I don't think this is that big of a deal.I don't know many people who get in trouble for not changing their behavior.Do what you will with that.

The bumpers and horn are more important than tires.If you have to warn someone, you need a horn.It's a form of communication in a vehicle.Bumpers are meant to protect you.You need to find out what is required for a bumper.You will be fine if you have both of those things.State to state, there may be other small things that are required.If there is anything, check your state.
