Popliteus tendinopathy is a gap in the pop liteus.Athletes and people with a history of other knee injuries often have Popliteus, which is an uncommon pathology.It is rare in non-athletes without a history of knee traumas.

The popliteus muscle is located on the posterolateral corner of the knee.The femoral condyle is one of the 3 origins.The linea muscli solei is on the side of the tibia that has the popliteus muscle on it.In more than 80% of cases, the lateral meniscus is absent.There is a popliteal hiatus in the coronary ligament that allows the tendon to attach itself to the femoral condyl.Extra-articular and extrasynovial are what the tendon is made of.The internal rotation of the popliteus muscle is the primary function.Its most important role is to provide forward stabilization of the knee, and also to help with the recovery from knee surgery.When the knee is in full extension, it allows it to flex.The popliteus muscle is the key to unlocking the knee.Laprade et al.The fifth major ligament of the knee is the popliteus tendon.

The popliteus muscle-tendon unit may be the cause of tendinopathy.It happens when athletes run or train on hills.Common causes are either a direct varus force, or a sudden forced knee hyperextension due to the internal rotation of the tibia.

A thorough physical examination and a careful analysis of the case history should be used to establish the diagnosis.Patients with symptoms that include tenderness along the course of the popliteus tendon are more likely to have resisted external rotation.

The differential diagnosis of knee pain should always include an internal pathology such as a horn tear.

The patient sits in a figure 4 position with one leg crossed over the other and the hip and knee flexed.The therapist looks for redness in the corner.

The popliteus can be tested by placing the patient on his back on a table with the knee in a 90 degree bend and the foot in dorsiflexion.The patient has to maintain his position while the therapist pushes his foot and underleg to test the popliteus.

The treatment for popliteus tendinopathy includes rest, ice application, elevation, an elastic wrap, physical therapy, and nonsteroidal anti- inflammatory medication.There is additional treatment for popliteus tendinopathy.A compression bandage or a knee sleeve is useful for reducing symptoms.In order to reduce the pain, the physician may recommend taping the injury.When symptoms persist for more than 6 months, surgery is required to remove the tendon sheath.10

The patients were treated with anti- inflammatory medication and knee splints for 2 weeks, according to the article.The patients all responded to the injection with immediate pain relief.[9]

Correct shoe wear can fix the hyperpronation and prevent popliteus tendinopathy.

The patient has to do a quick loading-unloading step exercise.This means that the exercise will be done as quickly as possible.
