A flower crown is a great way to make the most of the season's fresh blossoms, whether you're in a wedding, going to a garden party, or just celebrating spring and summer. It's a simple project that will add a nice touch to any event.Attach your favorite flowers to a wire base and make a beautiful headpiece.
Step 1: Add 2 inches to your head with a measure.
Measure your hair first if you are going to wear this wreath over a hairstyle at a wedding.French braids and braided crowns add bulk to your head.
Step 2: Cut a piece of wire according to that measurement.
Try to use a thicker floral that has paper around it.This will make the florist's tape stick better. You should not use scissors to cut the wire.Cut wire instead.
Step 3: Make a ring with the wire and overlap its ends.
The ring needs to hold its shape. If it is floppy, make a ring out of two to three strands of wire. This should make it stronger.
Step 4: Wrap florist's tape around the ends to make sure they are secure.
There is more tape around the wire ring. You will have a base to work on.It will make the color more consistent.
Step 5: Cut the stems down to 1 to 2 inches below the bloom.
Use scissors and wire cutters to cut flowers. The stems should be cut the same length. The crown will be neater in the end.Use large, medium, and small flowers. This will give you a variety.
Step 6: You can arrange the flowers in a pattern.
Don't put the flowers on the base yet. It's important to get your design down first. While the flowers are still on the table, it is easier to make changes. You can try alternating between shapes, sizes, and colors.Place the largest flowers in the front of the crown. As you go towards the back of the crown, use smaller and smaller flowers. The flowers should point in the same direction towards or away from the crown. There is no need for the flowers to be right up against each other. It's possible to have them as close together or as far apart as you want.Place the flowers on the top of the wire base.
Step 7: Attach the flower to the wire base.
Hold the flower against the wire so that the stem is horizontal.Wrap the stem and wire with florist's tape.Wrap until you are 12 inch past the end of the stem.Press the edge of the tape down to seal it.
Step 8: Place the second flower behind the first one and use florist's tape to secure it.
Place it so that the bloom overlaps the first flower. The crown will look heavier in the end if the two blooms are close together. The crown is thinner and more delicate if you are further away from the blooms.
Step 9: Place the flowers and tape them up.
You should keep working your way around the circle until you have used up all of the flowers you laid out in the beginning.
Step 10: Consider adding some ribbon.
Just behind the spot where the wires overlap, place several long pieces of ribbon in half.Just above the wire, leave about 1 inch of the loop.Wrap the ends of the ribbon around the wire.To secure the ribbons, gently tug on them.
Step 11: If necessary, try on your crown.
If you see gaps or places where you want it to look more full, gently part the flowers, insert another one and tape it in place.
Step 12: Choose flowers with flexible stems.
The stems should be at least 3 inches long. You can use a variety of flowers.Daisies and dandelions are classical, but you can also use forget-me-nots.Flowering herbs, such as mint, can be used as well. They will smell amazing and look beautiful.
Step 13: Cut the stems so that they are all the same length.
This will make it easier to braid the flowers.
Step 14: The flowers should be placed in a bowl filled with water.
You can keep the flowers fresh while you work.It can take a while to make braided flower crowns, and the flowers may not last long.
Step 15: Attach the flowers with piece of floral wire.
Wrap a small piece of wire around the stems a few times.Try to get wire close to the blooms. If one of the blooms is higher than the other, your crown will look different. While you braid the flowers, hold them together with the wire.Use twist ties or thread if you don't have floral wire.
Step 16: Start with the stems.
Pull the left stem so it ends up between the middle and right stems.Take the right stem and place it between the left and middle stems.Continue until your braid is 1 inch long.
Step 17: The flower should be on the left stem.
The braid should hold the new flower beneath it.
Step 18: The stems should be brought over so that they end up between the right and middle stems.
They will count as one stem if they are kept together.
Step 19: A flower is added to the right stem.
The braid has a flower that is already in it.
Step 20: If you bring both stems over, they will end up between the middle and left stems.
The stems should not be spread apart.Think of them as one thick stem if you keep them together.
Step 21: Continue repeating the last few steps until you get the length you want.
As you add flowers, the sections you are braiding will get bigger.Try different types of flowers. This adds color, texture, and beauty.Don't be afraid to use leaves, vines, and grasses.
Step 22: There is a few inches too big of a garland.
The two ends of the garland should be large enough for you to overlap them. The crown will be more secure in the end.
Step 23: Wrap the wire around the end of the pole.
The wire should be placed beneath the flowers.Wrap the wire around the end of the garland a few times, then cut the excess with a pair of wire cutters. This will hold your flowers together.
Step 24: The ends of the garland need to be brought together.
When the crown sits on your head, overlap the ends.As you take the crown off, hold the two ends together.
Step 25: Wrap wire around both ends.
When you see a flower, thread the wire underneath it.The stems are being binding together.Remove the excess wire once the crown is secured. The wire should be tucked into the braided stems.
Step 26: You can find a headband that is plastic or metal.
You will glue the flowers to the headband.
Step 27: Add some ribbon to the headband
This will help hide the headband's original color and give the glue something to grab onto.Green might blend in better with the flowers if you use any color of ribbon. If you don't want a green ribbon, try to match the color of the flowers you are using.Choose a ribbon that is the same width as your headband and attach it.Cut it so that it's 2 inches longer than your headband.Attach the ribbon to the headband with hot glue. There will be an inch of ribbon on each end.Put glue on the ends of the ribbon and fold them under the headband.Put a drop of hot glue on the headband.Attach the end of the ribbon to the glue.Wrap the ribbon around the headband.Go from one end to the other. The ribbon should be slightly overlap. You will not get any patches if you cover the headband completely.Place a drop of glue on the end of the ribbon.
Step 28: Pull the blooms off of the stems with some fake flowers.
If the bloom doesn't come off, use wire cutter to remove it.Try to get as close to the flower as possible.
Step 29: If necessary, cut the bottom part of the stem off.
You may get a little nub on the bottom of the flower when you pull the blooms off the stems. The headband may keep the flower from laying down. This nub should be removed if you want the flower to lay flat.Don't cut too much. The flower is held together by this little nub.The flower may fall apart if you cut too much.
Step 30: Attach hot glue to the bottom of the flower.
The glue should be around the base where the stem connects to the flower.Glue is placed on the bottom of the stem.
Step 31: The headband needs to be pressed down onto the flower.
Hold it there until the glue starts to stick.
Step 32: When the glue is dry, move on to the next flower.
The flower should be placed as close to the first one as possible.
Step 33: Small flowers or leaves fill in gaps.
Press the flower or leaf into the glue on the headband.
Step 34: Before wearing the headband, remove any glue threads.
Hot glue can leave behind strands of glue. The most beautiful headband can look messy.Carefully remove any strands from your headband.
