If you can maintain it, wicker furniture can be a great addition to your home.Simple replacement reeds can be used to do larger repairs.Good care of your wicker furniture will keep it in top shape.
Step 1: Take a look at the furniture for loose ends.
Look for pieces poking out of your wicker furniture.If you want to see things clearly, use a map lamp or flashlight.If you can't see easily close up, use your hands to feel for loose ends.
Step 2: You can use wood glue to fix them.
The wood glue should be applied to the bottom of the loose ends.Pull the strands together to tuck them back into the wicker pattern.To bond the pieces to the chair, hold them down for a few seconds.For each strand you find, do this.
Step 3: Allow the glue to dry for 30 minutes.
Allow the glue to dry after you tucked in and glue all the loose ends.You should not touch the furniture for a full 30 minutes.If you want the best results, leave the item of furniture in a cool, dry room.
Step 4: The strands of wicker are broken.
Use heavy-duty scissors or an exacto knife to cut loose strands of wicker furniture.Carefully cut through the damaged parts of the piece.Pull out the damaged strands so they don't damage other parts of the wicker.
Step 5: To make the reeds flexible, soak them in warm water for 30 minutes.
Select the replacement reeds you need.They should be placed in a container full of warm water.They should be in the water for 30 minutes.
Step 6: Excess water should be removed from the reeds.
Take the reeds out of the water and put them on a pile of paper towels.To drain out excess water, gently press on the reeds with another paper towel.Continue pressing on them with fresh paper towels.
Step 7: Take the reeds and put them into the furniture.
From a point near the back, thread a replacement reed into the furniture.You can gently weave the reed out of the wicker with pliers or your fingers.The best results come from following the pattern of the wicker.
Step 8: Glue the strands together.
Add wood glue to the ends once the reed is all the way through.To keep them from sticking out, Tuck them in.Hold the stands in place for a short time to allow the glue to set.
Step 9: After 30 minutes, put carpet tacks on the ends.
Once the wood glue is dry, put carpet tacks on the ends of the replacement reeds.To avoid splitting the reed fibers, gently push the tacks in.To make sure the tack are secure, use a hammer or finger.
Step 10: The cushions need to be cleaned.
It is possible that wicker furniture is more prone to attracting odors, dust, and dirt.It is possible to remove the furniture for cleaning.Remove the covers from the washing machine and allow them to air dry.Bring them to be professionally cleaned or use a wet vacuum if they don't have a cover.
Step 11: You can use bleach and water to clean the wicker furniture.
In a large bucket, mix 1 liter of water and 250 liters of household bleach.Use a clean cloth soaked in this solution to clean your furniture.Allow it to air dry for a few hours.The solution will remove stains from wicker.Gloves are used to apply this solution.
Step 12: Refinish the wicker with a primer.
The wicker furniture can be placed outdoors or in aventilated area.The entire surface of your wicker furniture can be sprayed with a thin layer of primer.Allow it to dry for a few hours.When spraying it, hold the can 2–3 inches away from the furniture.To avoid inhaling fumes, wear a mask.
