Salmon eggs are a great fishing bait that can attract a wide variety of fish.If you plan on using salmon eggs for bait, you need to make a sack or roe bag so that the eggs don't float awayYou'll have to purchase specialty mesh sheets from a fishing store and make the bags yourself.You can secure your salmon eggs with a special type of knot.
Step 1: A net is placed on a flat surface.
You can buy mesh sheets at a fishing store or online.These sheets are designed to hold eggs as bait and come in packages of 25 or 50.If you are fishing in murky water, yellow sheets are better.If you are fishing in clear water, red sheets are more attractive to fish.
Step 2: There are 20 eggs in the center of the sheet.
The bigger your bait is, the more eggs you place in each bag.If you are fishing for trout, you should make the roe bag bigger to better attract them.If you are fishing for sunfish, make the bag small enough to fit in their mouth.You can buy salmon egg bait at a store.
Step 3: The bait floats should be on top of the eggs.
The roe bag can be kept floating in the water with bait floats.Adding small bait floats to the roe bag can prevent your bait from getting caught on rocks.The bait floats should be the same size as your salmon eggs.
Step 4: To twist the top of the mesh sheet, grab the corners.
Pick up the four corners of the mesh and put them over the eggs.An egg sack can be created by twisting the top of the mesh.The sack needs to be secured in place.You may pop the eggs if you squeeze them.
Step 5: The top of the bag needs to be tied.
Wrap a piece of thread around the bag.To hold the eggs in place, tie the end of the thread with a knot.If you want to hold the bag in place without tying a knot, you can use a special type of string called Tackle Spider Thread.
Step 6: The excess mesh needs to be cut from the bag.
To remove the extra mesh from the top of the bag, use a pair of scissors.If you have a tight bag of eggs, you can use them for bait.You can keep the bags in the fridge for up to 3 months if you don't plan on using them immediately.roe bags are usually 1–2 inches in diameter.Fresh bags should be created if the roe bags look white or discolored over time.
Step 7: The line should be threaded through the hook's eye.
Pull the line through the eye of the hook.As you move onto the next steps, use your fingers to hold the line in place.
Step 8: Wrap the other end of the line around the hook a number of times.
Wrap the long end of the line around the hook and the other side.Start as close to the eye of the hook as possible.As you do this, keep the line tight.
Step 9: Use the opposite side of the eye to thread the line.
You can thread the line through the eye if you take the other end or tag end.The line from the other side of the eye needs to be pushed through the tag end.Your line should now form a loop.
Step 10: The tag end needs to be held against the hook.
The tag end should be against the hook.As you move onto the next steps, this will secure your loop in place.The loop will come undone if you don't hold the tag end of the line up against the hook.
Step 11: Wrap the line around the hook at least 12 times.
Wrap the bottom portion of the line around the hook.Wrap it and pull it tight to put everything in place.
Step 12: To tighten the knot, pull the end of the tag.
The rest of the line will go through the eye if the tag end is pulled while still holding the loops in place.Pull on both ends of the string to tighten it.You can make the knot look neater by cutting the excess line on the tag end.
Step 13: The loop knot should be loosened by pulling the top of it.
Pull up on the top portion of the knot to create a larger loop.You will tighten the line around the bag to make sure it is in place.The top loop of the knot should be easy to pull if you tied it correctly.
Step 14: Puncture the center of the bag.
The hook should be placed in the center of the roe bag.If you want your hook to go through both sides of the mesh, Puncture the bag all the way through.You should be able to slide your bag down your hook.
Step 15: Take the loop around the bag.
As close to the eye as you can, put the roe bag up the hook.Wrap the loop on the top of your egg loop knot around the center of the roe bag.If you use an egg loop knot you can prevent your roe bag from becoming detached and floating away as you fish.
Step 16: The loop around the bag should be tightened by pulling on the free end of the line.
The roe bag should be in place if the loop is tightened.The roe bag will be attached to your hook and line when you fish.If you pull on the free end of the line too hard, you will sever your roe bag in half.
