Most of us have more pairs of shoes than we need. How do you sell shoes to people who already have them?Whether it's in a store or online, the answer is with expertise and a smile. The success of your business will be ensured by the two things.
Step 1: Understand your product more than your customer.
Your customer is coming to you for knowledge, expertise, and the best shoe they can find. You need to be the expert.Help them learn something new about the product by showing them the shoe. What are the materials used to make it?What season is it from? What inspired it?Should the first shoe not work, you can offer them something else. You're bound to find something that catches their eye with your knowledge of everything you have to offer.
Step 2: Know who your consumer is and what they are looking for.
Slowly, you'll be able to recognize types of customers. Those customers with a sense of purpose, those who are just browsing, and those that know exactly what they're looking for are some of the people you'll recognize.Ask them questions beyond this.Get to know them.It saves time and money when you have their information handy. You should greet every customer that walks in your door.To start building a relationship, smile and get to them as soon as possible.Give them a second to evaluate the store and then ask how you can help.
Step 3: The customer should sit and try on the shoes.
To make sure their size is accurate, offer to measure both of their feet. This will vary by brand.Asking them what the shoes are going to be used for will help you identify their needs and improve their experience.Have your customer try on shoes.Offer to grab a different size or style if the shoes slide up and down on their feet.If they said sometimes they go back and forth between two sizes, then bring back pairs that are slightly bigger or smaller, just in case.
Step 4: Offer a choice.
A customer came in looking for a nude heel. They want you to go get their size. You should get a few more nude heels if they like them. They probably didn't notice the others in their haste to find a shoe.If you don't have any shoes on display, this goes double. It's a good idea to know your inventory like the back of your hand, because there could be a sale that you wouldn't otherwise make.
Step 5: Explain the product to your customer.
You can provide solutions and benefits to your customer by teaching them about the quality, fashion, comfort and value of their shoe.Tell your new customer if you have any feedback on that shoe. We're used to having all the information at our fingertips, so let them know that other customers say it's super comfortable, or that one pair tends to outshine another. All of our questions can be answered with an app for everything. You are the go-to guru for the brick and mortar shoe store.Giving them all the information possible will prevent them from returning the shoe, be unhappy with it and ensure they get what they're looking for.
Step 6: There is an inventory of shoes.
You have to have shoes to sell. You could either buy them from a distributor or make them yourself.Make sure you get them for a good price. You need a variety of shoes in every size and multiples. If you can't sell them all, this is a big investment. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on shoes, you can work with an existing shoe seller that needs your help.
Step 7: You can open up a shop online.
Most people are capable of almost anything with technology. You can get your product online if you have three pairs of shoes to sell. You'll need a storefront to do that, here are the major ones to consider.
Step 8: The product's description should include all the necessary details.
No one will buy a shoe if they don't know anything about it.If it's lacking in description, not only is it a deterrent to buy, but it comes off as shady, too, making your website or ad look questionable.List the manufacturer's original size and international equivalents.Length and width should be listed if the original size is not known.Tell us about the color, type, and dress. The style is Oxford, brogue, pump, etc.As accurate as possible. If possible, describe the method of construction for the shoe.Mention any flaws in the shoes if they are not new.
Step 9: Take a few photos of each shoe.
Take pictures that are clear, well lit and show as many as you can.For fit, size is only important. The photos of shoe buyers are very important.Hire a photographer to take good photos of your shoes. They should be flattering.Every detail can be seen from different angles if each shoe is against a white background.
Step 10: Also include brand-specific differences.
Sometimes brands have different sizes from the norm. The length of the sole should be included if this is the case.Measure the shoe from the toe to the heel.A 9 or 39 can be different from another.Let's say a Steve Madden 9 is 9 and 3/4" while a Jimmy Choo 39 is 8 and 7/8".When buying through a screen, small differences matter. It can save you a lot of questions from buyers if you include the measurement.
Step 11: Don't lie if the shoes are used.
Give as accurate a description and documentation as possible when it comes to the condition of used shoes.gently used or worn shoes can be non-descript if they are not new.Explain how they are used. Some wear on tread, but leather upper is pristine. This makes you appear responsible and honest and gives the customer a sense of solace.Take pictures of any flaws or wear. This can help avoid angry buyers who may think they were tricked. If you add small additions to your listings, you can avoid delayed contact with buyers or potential buyers. The more complete your listing is, the more attractive it will be.
Step 12: Determine the appropriate shipping rates.
If your shipping rates are outrageous, your customers will look for somewhere else to go that's more reasonable.Offer them a variety of options, from super- quick delivery to something cheaper.Make sure the shoes don't get damaged. You can ship shoes for less if you don't have a box. It's nice for buyers to have more than one shipping option. It's a good idea to allow them to choose if they want the original shoe box or not.
Step 13: You can offer deals and market your site.
You'll need a way to get your shoes on the feet of potential customers if you're a budding entrepreneur.First-time buyers and returning buyers should be offered deals.Purchase ad space on other websites. You can slowly expand your audience by getting word of mouth in your area.Customers are always looking for a discount on shoes, because they aren't in the same category as a lot of other things. If you can't sell a specific style, brand, or size of shoe, slap a discount sticker on it.At its new cost, you may see it leave your shelves.
Step 14: Get rid of a celebrity's name.
Many humans are basic when it comes to persuasion. We all want to look good.If you say that Kobe Bryant or KimKardashian wears these exact brand of shoes, there's a chance that will perk up their interest. This is a good time to use celebrities as a reference point for what's trendy. This can backfire for some people.Try to understand the customer. You might want to stay away from the celebrities if they dress and act like they value being their own individual. Some people hear "KimKardashian" and want to go in a different direction.
Step 15: Become friends with them.
We've all had experiences with people who are unfriendly and don't want to sell. What should we do in that situation?Generally leave.Be friendly and personable to get that sale.If it's fitting, talk about your shoe problems. It's a good idea to make yourself a person that knows a lot about shoes and knows how to sell them. They will trust you more if you are friendly and open.Customers need to be judged on their lifetime value, not their current purchase.A lower-class customer that spends $50 a month on shoes for the next few years is more valuable than a high-roller who spends $1,000 on one pair of shoes. It's not as obvious as it seems when choosing which clients to gush over.
Step 16: Comment on their style.
They should keep throwing out the compliment when they're debating between which shoes to buy. They are dressing to impress if they are wearing fancy shoes.Flatter them by saying that they are classy. They are probably a casual or sporty kind of person if they are wearing Nikes.Praise them no matter what they are wearing.Let them know that they should trust their purchases.Praise how the shoes look.If they look good.Let them know which pair looks best on them.Don't be crazy.Don't compliment customers on their hair and makeup if they just rolled out of bed.Talk to them about a shoe that will compliment their busy schedule and make them feel good when it slips on their foot. They look like they're getting ready for the red carpet.
Step 17: A sense of urgentness can be created.
If you get a customer that is indecisive, you can try to get them to buy now.The shoe is going to be gone from the shelves or there will be a special discounted price soon.If they do, it will be gone. You can try the "out of stock" trick. If you can see they are looking at a shoe, tell them you have more in stock.Come out victorious by going in the back and waiting a few minutes. The customer is so lucky that they were told this is the last in stock.
Step 18: The sale needs to be closed.
Remember to thank your customer when the sale is over.Give them a business card, let them know about any upcoming promotions, and tell them that if they have any problems at all, they should come back and you can work something out to make them happy. If they need a recommendation on where to buy shoes, your name will be the first to come up.Give them incentive to come in again.Next month, if you buy a product now, you can buy another pair at 1/2 off.New customers should be turned into returning customers. The more memorable you are, the more likely this is to happen.
