Text messaging is one of the best features of a mobile phone.It is the simplest way to contact someone long distance.Texting is not intrusive and can be replied to.In order to send a text message, different phones have different processes to follow.With a little practice, you can have it down in no time.
Step 1: You can find the messaging icon by tapping it.
Depending on your phone type and layout, the location of the messaging icon will vary.It will be on the first page of your home screen when you turn it on.
Step 2: There is a new message button.
You can see a list of the text conversations on your phone once in your messages.If you don't see the person you want to text, hit the new message button and tap on their name.The new message button will be at the top of the screen and will look like a page with a pen.
Step 3: The number or name of the person you want to text is specified.
You'll be taken to a page with two blank fields after you tap the new message button.When the keyboard opens, you can type in the contact you want to send the text to.You can start typing the person's name if you have them in your contacts.You can see their name in the options.It's time to tap it.If you don't have the person you want to text in your contacts, you'll have to type their phone number out.You can add as many people as you want.
Step 4: You can type your message.
The field is near the middle of the screen.The field on your phone might have a message on it.You can type out your message with the on-screen keyboard.
Step 5: Send a message
Hit send once you've entered your message and the recipients of it.Your text message has been sent.
Step 6: You should go to the menu.
The method to enter the menu varies depending on the model of phone you have.There is a button on your phone that will take you to the menu, or you can scroll through the options on the home screen.The menu on some phones will start you off.Skip to the next step if that's the case.
Step 7: You can find the messaging icon.
You can find the messaging icon by scrolling through the options.Select it.
Step 8: The option to text is available.
On some phones, hitting the messaging icon will take you to a list of options.There is a text message.There is a picture message.There is a voice note.Select Text Message if that is the case with your phone.
Step 9: There is a new message option.
You can find the new message option by scrolling through the list of options.Select it.If you already have a conversation with the person you want to text, it will show up in the text messaging screen.You can choose to send a new text message instead of selecting the new message option.
Step 10: You can either type the name or number of the person you want to text.
You can enter the contact you want to message with the new message screen.Click on the person you want to message and enter their number.Before selecting a recipient, some non-smart phones prompt you to enter your message.Pick the "Send to" option if this is the case.You can choose to enter a phone number or a list of your contacts.
Step 11: Put your message in quotation marks.
There is a message entry field.You can type in the message you want to send.How you do this depends on whether you have a phone with a keyboard or not.If you have a phone with a full keyboard, you can type out your message on it.If you have a flip phone with a full keyboard, you'll see three or four letters next to each number on the keys.To enter a letter, you have to hit a certain number of times.The key will have "a", "b" and "c" on it.To enter a "c", you have to hit the key three times.
Step 12: You can send the message.
The OK or Send button is on the screen when you are done typing.To send a message, hit select.
Step 13: Go to your phone and open your contacts.
There is a physical button on some phones.Near the button that opens it, there is a label that says contacts.You have to scroll through the menu to find the contacts application.It will either be an option in the phone menu or an app for contacts.
Step 14: You can open the contact of the person you wish to message.
Find the name of the person you want to send a message to once you've opened your contacts.You should be able to either search or scroll to find who you want to reach.You can hit the "Okay" or "Select" button on a non-smartphone.You can usually open the contact details with a tap of the person's name.
Step 15: The message option can be used.
A cartoon-like speech bubble icon is usually used for a message icon on a smart phone.Clicking this option will take you to a window where you can write your message.Select send if you want to type your message.
Step 16: Don't send multiple texts without a response.
If you text someone and they don't reply within a day, it's a good idea to send another text just in case.Don't blow up someone's phone with messages.The point of texting is to allow people to get to it in their own time.
Step 17: Keep your text brief.
Texts are used for communication.Don't send a novel to someone because phones are hard to read on.Texts should be brief and to the point.
Step 18: Tone misinterpretation can be avoided.
Tone is more up to interpretation in text-based communication.This can be a problem when sending text messages.Don't be afraid to say ":" to make your tone clearer.
Step 19: If you haven't sent this person a text in a while, you should stop.
It can be confusing to get a text from someone who isn't in your phone.If you don't want to get a text back that says "Sorry, who is this?"At the end of your text, put a dash and your name.It will do just fine.
Step 20: The text should be double checked before being sent.
It's not a bad idea to look over your text message when there are mistakes in it.Correct any mistakes you see.If you think it could be simplified, give it a quick edit.Hit send.
