Setting up a dedicated server in ARK on a PS4 is possible.

Yes, you will need to buy a second game, but you won't need a subscription.Under your current psn account, I believe you can make one primary and one secondary.
If you have not wasted your money yet, you don't need to buy a second copy of the game.
I blame Wildcard for this misinformation because they did not do any research themselves when setting up their own server and they spread this false information around the internet.They should hang their heads in shame.
Even on the player dedicated page of the official forums, you can't find any concrete information for setting up your own server, and this has lead to a lot of players buying the game twice when they did not need to and all it would have taken is a little PSA from Wildcard

I linked to a post that was over a month old but this one is less than a day old and it is false information.
No one talks like that in the real world and I was not trying to start an argument as there is no point as you are wrong, unless you want to make yourself.
Wildcard caused this issue in the first place by not releasing any information to the paying/playing public, so the fault and blame lies with them, as had they put this information out you would not have got it wrong.
They might give you something back as they wasted your money, instead of having a go at me.
