Should I use a high-pressureradiator cap?
Most people don't understand what the pressure cap does. The cap pressure rating will not make your engine run cooler.
Take a pan of water and heat it up.The water is hot and boiling.Let's do the same thing with a pressure cooker. The pressure will be created by the expansion of the water. The pressure goes up when the boiling point of the water increases.45 degrees is added if the pressure goes up.The boiling point has been increased to 257 and we can cook more quickly.
A mixture of 50% water and 50% ethylene glycol has a boiling point.45 degrees will be added for a final boiling point of 268 degrees. The purpose of pressurizing is to give drivers a higher operating zone in case of extreme conditions. For example, if you have a classic car that runs at 180-190, boiling is not a problem. The temperature goes to over 200 on a hot day. This is not a problem, but when traffic stops you can't move.Without a pressurized system the coolant would boil and spread all over the place as the temperature rises. The temperature would rise even higher if the coolant was lost. The cap rating has nothing to do with the above running temperatures. The conditions of the cooling systems capability, ambient air temperature, and air flow are what they are.
It is not possible for customers to report their system boiling over at temperatures of 220 or lower. The system is overfilled. When the coolant expands it has no place to go but people think it's boiling. After the engine cools down, some will re-fill the system and continue the cycle over and over. The solution is to stop adding fluid. The system will find the proper level once it pushes out the excess fluid.
