It's not pretentious, but it is a little goofy. Especially for those of us who haunt the halls of academe, a master's degree after a name mostly connotes that the individual does not have a PhD. I would make exceptions for MBA and MFA, which are considered terminal degrees.
What is the difference between a MA and a MFA?
The MA is an academic degree, normally delivered as a taught programme across Arts and Humanities and some Social Science subjects. The MFA is a practice-based degree and is only offered in Arts subjects based on performance or creative work.
What does the title MFA mean?
An MFA is a Master of Fine Arts, a graduate-level degree for students studying visual and performing arts, design or creative writing.5 Aug 2021
What do you call someone with an MFA?
Anyone who has earned a doctoral degree can be addressed as “Dr. Last Name”. In fine arts, social work, and law, many professors will have an MFA, MSW, or JD (respectively) rather than a doctoral degree. And although some professors might also be doctors, “Professor” is a higher rank and thus tends to be preferred. Mr.30 Nov 2018
