A bowl of spaghetti and rich tomato sauce is a classic dinner that can please even the pickiest eaters. If you're tired of standing over the stove all day to get the perfect spaghetti sauce, it's time to cook it in the slow cooker. You only have to saute the onion and garlic for a few minutes before you combine them with the rest of the ingredients in the slow cooker.
Step 1: The tomato sauce, paste, and diced tomatoes should be added to the slow cooker.
The contents of the cans of tomato sauce, tomato paste, and diced tomatoes should be put into the slow cooker. You can mix the ingredients with a wooden spoon. For this recipe, your slow cooker must hold at least 6 quarts. If possible, use fire-roasted diced tomatoes.
Step 2: Add the bay leaves and other spices.
After all of the tomato ingredients are mixed in the slow cooker, add bay leaves, garlic powder, dried basil, and dried oregano.Add all of the spices. If you like crushed red pepper, you can mix it with other spices.
Step 3: Put the red wine in a container.
Add 12 cup of dry red wine when the spices are mixed in.Make sure the wine is fully incorporated. It's optional to add the wine. You can still make a delicious sauce without it.
Step 4: The olive oil should be in the pan.
Add some olive oil to the skillet on the stove.Allow the oil to heat for 3 to 5 minutes until it starts to shimmer, then turn the burner to medium. If you want the best results, use a non-stick skillet.
Step 5: The onion should be soft.
Add a large chopped onion to the skillet once the oil is heated.Allow the onion to cook for 3 to 5 minutes.
Step 6: The garlic will take another couple of minutes to cook.
Add 3 cloves of garlic to the skillet when the onion is soft.Allow the onion and garlic to cook for 2 to 3 minutes until the garlic becomes fragrant. You can use garlic from a jar.You add other vegetables to the sauce.Mushrooms, chopped carrot, bell peppers, and/or celery all work well. When the vegetables are soft, saute them with the onion and garlic.
Step 7: The mixture should be put in the slow cooker.
Once the garlic and onion mixture is cooked, use a spoon to add it to the slow cooker. The onion mixture should be put into the sauce base.Add the onion and garlic to the slow cooker if there is any oil left in the skillet.
Step 8: Add the lid to the slow cooker by placing a dish cloth over it.
If you want your sauce to be thick and rich, you need to drape a clean dish towel over the slow cooker. The towel should be secured over the lid to keep it in place.
Step 9: The sauce should be cooked in the slow cooker for several hours.
The slow cooker needs to be turned to low.Allow the sauce to cook for 8 hours or until it is thick and warm.If you want the sauce to be ready quicker, cook it on high for 4 to 5 hours.
Step 10: You can taste the sauce by removing the bay leaves.
When the sauce is done cooking, remove the bay leaves from it.Give the sauce a try.To make it taste better, add salt and black pepper. If the sauce has any bitterness, you can add brown sugar to balance it out.
Step 11: You can serve the sauce over pasta.
If you like the taste of the sauce, ladle it over the pasta of your choice. You can use it with spaghettini, angel hair, capellini, linguine, penne, rigatoni, or Ziti. The sauce can be used with stuffed pasta. The sauce can be used in your usual recipe.Pizza, parmigiana dishes, and heroes all work well with this basic sauce.
